True Dual Exhaust
True Dual Exhaust
I have a 2005 F150, extended cab, lariat 4x4, 5.4
I now have a gibson cat back, SIDO system, but what I really want is a true dual setup. Only problem is when I went to go get it, every place told me it was impossible for one of 2 different reasons.
First: There is an Oxygen sensor just after where the pipes come into one piece. They told me if they just left it on one side of the exhaust or in the crossover piece in an "H" pipe it wouldn't get enough flow and cause a check engine light/fault code. I suggested running an "X" pipe and putting the O2 sensor there, because all the exhaust is going right through that area, which leads me to the second reson I was told its not possible.
Secondly: There isnt' enough room for 2 SISO mufflers under there.
I was told this with both my 2002 FX4 extended cab and this truck. I went to about 10 different shops and they all told me the same thing, which makes me think there might be some credit to what they are all saying.
The couple places that were willing to do the "x" pipe said I'd still have to go to a DIDO muffler.
Did I just happen to run into a bunch of lazy shops, or is this really the case.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

they are probably thinking that you want the drivers side pipe ran strictly down the drivers side and the passengers side pipe ran strictly down the passengers side. tell them its just like a si/do setup, but you are just adding an x-pipe and some midpipe. you will have to show them underneath the truck how it should be ran, and as for the 02 sensors, there are no 02 sensors ran past the y-pipe, or even close enough for any interference. take them some pics from the members exhaust on here, and i would highly recommend 2.25" tailpipes.

Thanks.
It is possible. The O2 sensors are in the catylitic converters, which are before the x pipe. There are absolutley no problems with cutting out the stock Y pipe and going from there.
I dont know why they would say that, unless they are all thinking about the old (pre 97) models that have the cat after the y pipe.
As for the muffler situation, Im sure there are mufflers that will fit, you can get them in about any size. I dont know how much room there is exactley, but I know there are tons of new F150's running around with dual exhuast and 2 mufflers.

on a true dual setup with these trucks, the mufflers will be side-by-side vertically, wheras mustang mufflers are setup horizontally. or you could just get some magnaflow 4" round mufflers. that last sentenced was biased because those will be the next mufflers i will get.
