Straight pipes anyone?

Allrighty, here's my dilemma. I want for my truck to be loud as a ****. The Original 40 Series Flowmaster on it just isn't cutting it for me. Should I run straight pipes? I'm worried that I will lose a ton of low end by doing this. Will it be that much less torque than with the Flowmaster? Or could I gain a lot of sound by ditching the 4 stock cats and running 2 stock or 2 high flow cats? Or just ditch the Flowmaster and run an IMCO Extreme?

u want loud what i would do is take off the 2bigger cats and leave the little ones because those r only pre cats and theres not even a reason to replace them with 2 high flow cats becasue they still have the same amount of stuff in them. so take off those to cats and shortin up the pipes to come out in front of ur tire and with 5x22inch tips. this is what i have on my truck and it is insanely loud. but it still sounds good its not a bad sound.

I ran no cats for awile. If your going to pull 2 just pull all four. You will gain A LOT of sound. I went to high-flows after running no cats for about a month. With high flows the sound will be about halfway in between no cats and factory cats. You will notice a decent loss of midrange power with no cats. Also, I have MIL emiliminators if your interested.

Question No Exaust

I have true duals on my 1999 2 wheel drive F150 and the exaust is in bad shape. I think it has a couple of glass packs and one is broken and rattles. I dont have alot of money so I was wanting to know the best way to go without having to spend alot of money. I dont know what cats etc are but I was told by one place to just Y the exaust and run it with no mufflers. Is that okay to do? What do you guys think? Thanks Robert

I called a shop today, and was quoted $60 - 80. Is this a good price?

If you remove two cats you will not be legal. If you remove any you will not be legal. That is a good price.. But are they recplacing the pipe with stainless?

That price is to just take out the muffler, make a Y-pipe to put in its place, and to weld in said y-pipe. And I'm guessing that it's just going to be aluminized steel like the rest of the system.

Take out the muffler and put a Y-pipe in its place? So let me get this right... Your planning on running 4 cats, with no muffler and dual tips? I think I paid $100 for stainless midpipes, and installing Hi-flows.

Well it was just to install the hi-flows which I purchased from troyer for like $80 a peice, and install stainless midpipes. Troyer gave them to me at their cost.

I went with a flowmaster 1 chamber race only muffler and it sounds good. Hey does anyone know is there anyone that makes a off road Y pipe for a F-150? I hate cats.

I did this on a Brand X vehicle that had cats, Y pipe, single (I-pipe), then dual tips...

I kept the cats for legal reasons.
I dumped the stock single muffler.
I replaced it with a 3" Dynomax Race Bullet (pn 24222).
Installed a fabbed Y after the muffler to retain dual tips.

The part I used was 3" dia x 12" long.
They also make a 3" x 18" for a slight added sound control.
They also make 2.5" to 5" diameters for different size intermediate pipes.
This muff is a lot like a glasspack in some ways, but a lot different in others.
It uses a ceramic packing that does not burn like the packing in others.
It uses a straight through preforated core, rather than fins protruding into exhaust flow.
It does NOT muffle sound much, however I noticed that it took the rasp out of straight pipes. Made loud pipes sound deep and refined. Got a lot of compliments.
Just an idea for ya...
Dave

Btw: Summit sells them dirt cheap, around 40 bux.

Edit:
I use 3.5"x12" race bullets on my Powerstroke vans! (I own a small fleet of E350s)
