Isolator
Isolator
Does anyone know if its safe or ok to remove an isolator??? It was supposed to prevent vibration, but it is causing vibration because the isolator is destroyed. My mechanic tells me it's a $195 part from Ford and really serves no purpose. Any thoughts guys???
thanks!

My mechanic tells me the part can only be obtained through Ford . . my mechanic is not a dealership . . .but he says the isolator's purpose is to prevent vibration from the tranny? Since we have no vibration, the isolator is broken and bangin the exhaust pipe causing a rattlin, he removed it

There wa an exhaust dampner of some sorts on my '01, and all I used it for was a handle for removing the stock system, to put on the Gibson, prior to the Bassanni.
If you are talking about the thing that looks like a pipe with both ends closed off on it, attached in front of the muffler, but behind the pre cats, yes you can leave it off, I went 40K without it, and dad still have the '01 without it.

Still trying to find the picture a member had of it. If it is the one between the muffler and Y pipe ( think that is where it was at ) we are talkng about the same thing then. It gets removed with the cat back systems, without issue.
Take it off, and toss it in the trash would be my suggestion.
If you want, take it off, and you might be able to rebuild the bracket, and put it back on with SS muffler clamps, but I don't think I'd waste the time. See how many 99 to 03 users have cat backs, and don't complain about vibrations, and my '06 didn't have one on it.
grind away ( or saw-all / jig saw / hack saw if you don't have an angle grinder ), and stop the noise !
