Need help with exhaust!

Alright I need some help and opinions. I know that this topic had been debated on a lot, but I got tired of looking through old posts. I have a 2003 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4 Engine. I currently have a Flowmaster muffler on it, but it is in dire need of replacing. About a year ago I got hung up offroading and tore a hole into the bottom of the muffler. Now that hole is huge and my truck is beginning to sound like crap. I am pretty sure that the truck has a Flowmster Original 40 on it. I would like something that is deeper and throatier but not quite as loud. The guy at a well respected muffler shop here sells Borla, Flowmaster, and Magnaflow. He suggested that I try two Magnaflow 14" mufflers. Is there any advantage to having two mufflers opposed to one? What would you guys suggest? The guy at this shop quoted me $385.00 total. That is for 2 Magnaflow 14" mufflers, all piping from the cats back, and two 4 1/2" stainless tips with rolled edges. Is that a good price?

Let me give you an idea what the pipe costs. I bought three 8 foot 3 inch sticks for $30 when I built my system. Two flowmasters costs me $95. Two cats cost me $59 each. Me and a buddy bent it, welded it, and stuck it up there.

If you want deeper and throatier then go true dual.

i got a 14'' magnaflow with rolled tips run straight out the back, I absoloutly love the way it sounds. i bought the muffler on ebay for $70 and had the muffler shop install dual tips for $170. 4.5 inch tips are toooooooo big, I've got 3 inch rolled and looks really good........thats just my opinion tho

Alright guys thanks for the help. I'm not sure if I am going to do anything or not. I have been talking to my dad recently and we are talking about selling this truck and me getting a superduty. We own our own business and pull a lot of heavy equipment. I am looking at a white '06 King Ranch FX4. We just think that me having something with better mileage and pulling power would benefit us much more than having a truck like I have now. I may try and wait for an '07. Not sure how it's gonna look. What do you guys think? Thanks for the help though.

If you tow alot, then nothing beats the diesel. You can add some power features to those that will allow them to pull a house off of its foundation if you so wish!

Yeah I know what you mean there. Nothing comes close to the diesel when pulling a heavy load. I have already started looking at chips and programmers. I think that the "Bully Dog Triple Power Pup Tuner" looks to be real nice. Like I said, we aren't sure yet on the truck, but I'd love to have a diesel. I wish I knew what the '07 model is going to look like. All I can find is pics with the truck covered up with the "bras" that automobile makers put on the trucks when testing. The truck I have seen in pics also looks like a low-end model. I would like to see what the Lariat and King Ranches are going to look like. Thaks for the help.

If you are looking at Powerstrokes, I'd strongly recommend finding a good clean 02 or early 03 with a 7.3. The 7.3 has proven super-reliable and strong with good hop-up potential as well. The newer late 03-06 6.0s have been problematic at best. If you can find a good one, they run like scalded dogs and the new coilover front end is nice. If you are insistent on buying new, I'd get an 06 because for 07 a new 6.4 liter twin-turbo is coming out. It is based on the 6.0 and is likely to have problems too, especially in its first year.

All that being said, I think the new King Ranch Powerstrokes are the best looking car, truck, anything on the road. If you have the $54,000 to spend on one, go for it!

Thanks for the info Brian. We currently have a 2005 F-350 with the 6.0 and so far it has had no problems (knock on wood). We didn't realize the problems that had been occuring when we purchased this truck and hopefully won't have any in the future. The truck consistently pulls extremely heavy loads, but it only has about 30,000 miles on it now. Like I said, hopefully no problems in the future. I had heard that Ford was putting a 6.4 in the newer trucks, but not as soon as the '07 model. We talked to a local dealer here and he said the '07 model would most likely have the 6.0 and the '08 or '09 model would have the new engine. Just depended on when they finished the testing on it. I don't know if I should believe him or not. Oh yeah, I definately agree with you on the King Ranches. Best looking truck on the road.
