Unhappy Just installed 18" Magnaflow - Too quiet. Recommendations?

I had the 18" Magnaflow SIDO muffler installed on my 2004 F150 5.4L this weekend with dual pipes exiting straight out the back/rolled chrome tips - and was a bit surprised at how quiet the setup is overall - even WOT. I do like how quiet it is at idle, and the deep tone is nice..so my question is this:

Should I swap for the 14" Magnaflow - or look into one of the Flowmasters instead. Ideally I would like louder and without alot of cabin drone at highway speeds. I would not mind a bit more sound inside the cabin. My fear is that I will get the 14" Magnaflow and it won't be loud enough for me. I'm going to call a few of the muffler shops tomorrow for more advice, maybe I will get lucky and someone will have something installed I can actually listen to.

I know this has been debated alot on the board, but maybe there is someone out there that has experienced this situation and can respond.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure he's never heard a Magnaflow. Hard to give exhaust advice when you don't even have your lisence! I would go to the 14" Magnaflow. It's loud on my cousin's F150. This will also retain your torque unlike the Slowmaster.

I don't think you have your "lisence" either I dont think anyone does... And yeah I've heard magnaflow.. flowmaster does lose torque but it's alot better sounding and louder.. i've been around drag strips and car shows alot more than you have

If thats not loud enough, try a flowmaster or IMCO 1 chamber, or even the ragged old glasspack.

both the imco and flowmaster will be what you are looking for, and unlike what others have said i have never had any low end loss from flowmaster and i have had it on many vehicles, good luck

Thanks everyone for the comments - I'm going to have the original 40 series flowmaster installed in the morning, after talking to more people I think I want the more aggressive sound - performance isn't really a concern.

If anyone is interested I will be selling the 18" SIDO magnaflow more than likely - only about 200 miles put on it since the weekend. Not sure on price yet, message me

I just installed the Flowmaster Super 40 SI/DO system and loved the sound to a point. Accelleration, Idle, startup (especially startup in the morning), etc.

Its coming off though because the interior DRONE can be unbearable at times. Its not a sporty grumble or anything but just a dull loud drone..

And I am not a noise sissy or anything the 2002 Corvette I had had GHL Magnums and GHL Headers.... Loud, growling exhaust but as soon as you would hit 65-75 and cruise it would be almost silent on the inside.

I went with the Flowmaster system cause I was imagining "Flowmaster+Mustang=cool flowmaster sound" I did not get that. I know I know, there are numerous reasons for this but I was a hoping....

If I was not driving the truck all over the place all day I would deal with it. But as a daily driver and on long trips its too much for me.

I just purchased a Flowmaster Delta 50 and am hoping I am not going to be disapointed in the other direction (too quiet) but we will see...

I wish GHL made a muffler or a system for the F150.... That would be sweet.

Also to those Magnaflow "Slowmaster" types.... My HP and Tourque increased slightly after installing the Flowmaster system according to my Passport G-Timer GT2..... 0-60 average did not change so it had little effect either way as far as my experience is concerned.

Lol.. to each his own... like I said I had a Vette with GHL Magnums which where louder but had no drone and that sounded "right" to me....

I also have a 67 mustang with a 289 and 343 rwhp (dynoed).... Headers, h-pipe, and dual "40"''s flowmasters straight out the back..... That my friend sounds like "muscle". The f150's drone with the single 40 was a true drone or "resonance" that was just an overbearing annoyance to me.....

The intake and the exhaust should complement the V8 engine. The transistion between my vettes "sucking air" and spitting it out was like a sirens song. It matched. If we were talking about this over a pint I would be making sounds about now.... lol...

My Mustangs exhaust can only be described as the true mustang sound..... To me its the sounds of 8 angels singing......

The F150 with a single 40 to me sounds like I have a noise maker under the truck (much like a civic with a fart can on it only "bigger")..... The intake is right (I have the K&N intake system), the si/do 40's exhaust (to me) is all wrong.....

By all means though if you enjoy it, more power too you..... To me it sounds like an untuned engine with a speed shop muffler slapped on when cruising at 65-75 on the highway or through town at about 25-30mph... Other than that it sounds great.......

Maybe its something with the 5.4......
