Can an F150 sound like a Mustang?

I was thinking of having a custom exhaust setup made up for my truck. I was just wondering if anyone had already done this, and if so, how did it turn out? I was thinking of taking an offroad X pipe from a Mustang and having it fitted up to my truck along with a set of Flowmasters. The system would be true duals all the way out and have no cats. My main concern is that it sounds as much like a Mustang as possible. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a 4.6 or 5.4? A 4.6 can be made to sound similar to a 4.6 GT, but a 5.4 has a totally different sound.

That being said even a 4.6 in a truck will never sound as sweet as a Mustang. I miss the sound of the 4.6 GT I sold to get this truck.

A buddy of mine had a 99 4.6 with a 5spd....IMO it sounded just like a mustang, he had flowmaster on it.

I just put a magnaflow on my 4.6 and some of the guys at work said it sounds like a mustang, but in my opinion mustangs have a very distinct sound all their own. I have always loved it. The magnaflow sounds awsome though.

you can make it sound very close. my buddy has an explorer with a 5.0 and if you wasn't looking and just heard the sound you could have sworn it was a mustang 5.0

I put a flowmaster 40 on my 4.6L truck along with an intake and it sounds very close to a new stock mustang. Not very loud, definantly has the unique "hollow" modular V8 sound to it.

Im impressed by it, so thats good enough for me...

EDIT- oh, and my average MPG is from 15-18. I lost NO MPG when adding the exhaust. Best is about 19 highway. I never crack the 20MPG mark though. Maybe with pulleys....

I don't think the x pipe for a stang will work. The exhaust on those is more compact for obvious reasons. But yes, you can make it sound very close with a good flowmaster system. Nothing beats the ol 5.0 through 40 series though

I've been listening for a truck that sounds like a mustang and I haven't heard it yet. My '90 GT has BBK EQ length headers, off road H, and 40 series. I've given up on trying to duplicate it with the truck. Trucks are their own animals.
