Best exhaust for a 4.6?

I'm buying a 1992 Crown Victoria P71 (Police Package) with a 4.6 V8 as a second vehicle. Yes I know that's not an F150 but I know that a lot of you guys & girls have 4.6's in your pick-ups. I was wondering what's the best mufflers & exhaust systems for the 4.6? My car has true dual exhaust from the factory so I could probably just use the OEM exhaust, plus it's cheaper for me that way since I work at an O'Reilly Bumper to Bumper. I have heard a lot of good stuff about the IMCO on the message boards & I also vaguely remember someone posting a webiste where you can get those dirt cheap. Is there any other options that sound decent? Would a Thrush glasspack sound good or would it just sound like another farm truck? I know that I wanna make it loud so if any of you other 4.6 owners have some good ideas on what to use as far as exhaust for a decent price please let me know because I'd like to have one of the better sounding cars in town. Thanks a lot!

I thought of doing that but I was told that the cats on those cars have to stay because there is sensors in there & the car wont run right after while if the cats go.

leave your stock converters in place, just replace the mufflers with straight pipe. It IS loud. My 98 4.6 has true dual straight pipes off of the stock converters ( 2" pipe) and it is LOUD. Crackles and pops like crazy in cool temps before the pipes warm up. 2.5" pipe would be insane loud.

That sounds like a great idea but is it more of a cackle/throaty exhaust when warmed up or is it low/mellow?

i have a 97 with si/do str8pipe and i would have to agree with the rice krispie (snap krackle pop) sound and it does mellow out when warm but not much. good luck hearing anything besides the exhaust at highway speed though

I have a 2004 4.6 XLT supercrew and I've been looking at the flowmaster super 40. I don't want just a loud sound, I want something that sounds good. Has anyone put the super 40 on their 4.6? Where is the best place to get a good deal on a flowmaster exaust kit? Average price?

I've got a normal 40 series (I'm not sure what the difference is) my 4.6 and it sounds schweeeeeeeeeeeet! But I still want it louder... I'd go to your local muffler shop or speed shop and see what they can do for you. Most locals use crimp bent pipes, but you want mandrel. My local guy is smart enough to use mandrel.

ive got an 03 4.6 screw ive got a dynomax bullet. its actually a race muffler but it sounds real good, no cabin echo or w.e you call it.
its quiet at idle almost like stock then when i open her up you know its there.

Oh and you dont know what loud is until you are in a two car garage when your friend starts his lowered 00 SS camaro running open headers at the time. Then you can talk about loud.
