Muffler question

Is there a big sound difference in running, say a flowmaster 40 series, with a SI/DO configuration, as opposed to true duals? I have a set of hooker headers, and thought about running true duals when I put them on. Would this work better?

I had SIDO flowmaster 40 on my truck with highflow cats and it sounded good. I wanted it a little louder so I cut the muffler off, installed headers, and ran 3" true duals with a high flow cat on each one and no mufflers, pipes straight out the back. Well, I got what I wanted - I have to scream to talk to my girlfriend while I'm driving, pass people on the highway and watch them flinch and roll their windows up, and also got 3 disturbing the peace tickets. It is LOUD - a lot louder than it needs to be - sounds like a damn NASCAR - oh yeah!
