Expy Exhaust

I have a 99 Expy and am still trying to figure out what to do witht the exhaust. Here is what I'm thinking of doing: Removing the "Y" pipe and running 2.5" dual pipes to the muffler(s). I'm considering running an x pipe around the spot the "Y" is now. My reasoning is since the drivers side of the exhaust will have to flow through so much more pipe than the passenger side, shouldn't I try and equilize the pressure? I'm either considering running a DI/DO muffler or would 2 mufflers be better? I'm sorry if this question is asked too much, but I've been searching through all the posts with exhaust questions and the questions I listed here I haven't found the answers to. Thanks in advance for your help.

Has anyone tried this? I was hoping someone could help me so that I don't waste money or time if this is a bad idea. I'm looking get more performance out of the 5.4 and have it make more noise! Planning to have the tailpipes exit at the corners of the bumper.
