Question After market exhaust and winter...

Hello Folks,

I would like to replace my stock exhaust with Catbacks, Magnaflow's, Borla's or Flowmaster's -- here's my question: I live in Ontario, Canada and the winters and salt can by pretty tough on everything under you average car or truck.

I would like to hear from the "northern" the F150 owners who have added an aftermarket exhaust system and tell me how long they last (are they all stainless steel systems??) and if you have any problems with them over a couple of winters. If I'm going to spend good money on one of these I want to make sure they will last as least as long as the factory ones

Thanks for your feedback...

Cheers,

i had the muffler shop do true duals on my truck. i lived in virginia mn most of my life ( northern mn) and just moved down to duluth which is still same snow and salt. they used stainless steel pipes which was pricey but no holes or nothing in my 2000. i had a flowmaster 40 series on my old truck and after 2 winters was shot. dont kno about the others tho. ill ask my friends what they have or look under some trucks at work for ya.

I had a Gibson Supertruck exhaust that was aluminized for years, then I moved to upstate NY and it lasted only another year. I replaced it with a Magnaflow stainless system and I am on my second winter with no marks on anything, as everything in the kit is stainless.

Ive got a Flowmaster 50 Series stainless on my '99 F-150. Im on my 2nd Flowmaster muffler. The last one rotted-out in 3 1/2 years.
What happened with mine is that both of the inlets of the muffler rotted-out and cracked.
The muffler shop covered the warranty and all I had to pay for was installation, so its all good.
In my opinion, a stainless muffler should not rot-out in 3 1/2 years.
The rest of my exhaust from the cat back is stainless and is not rotting out, so why should the muffler rot-out?
If it werent so expensive, Id switch the truck back to the OEM style exhaust and get rid of the POS Flowmaster. Considering that the OEM muffler is $600, I dont think so.
