Making it loud?!

Howdy, I have a 97 F150 with the 4.2L and I want to make the exhaust as loud as possible. I know it will never sound as good as a V8 but I want to get it as close as possible. I know people who have tried glass packs, flowmasters, magnaflows, and even a guy who cut off everything behind the cats. However, none of them will set off car alarms or even have a good rumble. Is there anything that will do it???

Just because it may be loud doesn't mean it will sound like a V8. I hear a lot of trucks with loud exhaust that you can tell are just 4 or 6 cylinders with cheap, loud exhaust. Why don't you beef up the motor to the point where it could actually benefit from a better flowing exhaust system. That way you will have a legitimate vehicle instead of just a loud one. Many people get tickets for loud exhaust.

As the above poster said, it's still going to sound like a v6. Just put some freeflowing muffler on it and be done with it. There are already enough loud trucks running around in BCS, no reason to add to it.

If you want it loud, really loud, get straight pipes.

I had a 2001 F150 4.2 with a 40 series flowmaster with no turn downs or tips out the back...I just cut the big a** factory muffler off and welded it on. It was pretty loud and people knew it was me coming down the road before they could see me. I got a couple of "I thought that truck had a V8 in it" from some people, but it was obvious it was a 6 at WOT. The truck had a 5spd in it so i could stay in a gear a while and make it really loud. it sounded good with 40 tho.

I kno the imco extreme muffler sounds really good and is super loud on v8's but i dont know exactly what they would sound like on a 6 cylinder. But if u want it loud, get an imco extreme, i just ordered mine yesterday for my 4.6 and i can wait to slap that thing on. You can check out the muffler at http://www.grabthepower.com/extreme-mufflers.html. If your interested performance-curve.com has the best prices around. the muffler doesnt cost much at all so u might as well give it a shot!

Good Luck
