98 F150 w/ Super 40 Flowmaster
New to forum - couple of questions for you pros.
I just bought a 1998 F150 4.6 V8 4x4 - started to clean it up / modify.
I just bought a FM Super 40 kit from eBay for $230 (shipped) - I think I got a good deal. Has anyone installed a new exhaust and seen HP or Gas Mileage increase. Some are saying they saw 20hp increase - I think thats a stretch.
Next I am going for a cold air intake - maybe K&N.
Thoughts on FM Super 40 / K&N intake?
Thanks for info!

Yeah, 20 HP increase if you remove everything but the seat.
Don't expect more than 5 HP from a basic exhaust and intake change, if that. They are a good starting point, but if you're really after true performance the only way to go is a blower. You can add a bigger TB, and special plugs and wires and so forth, but other than heads or a blower (nitrous, well, bottles are for babies, real men get blown) you're not going to get all you can. You can get the programmer too, but its still not going to be what you're looking for if you want some serious @$$ kicking HP gains

5hp yes, and possibly 10-12. Exhaust is usually more effective at changing the rpm of the available power, not really a brute power increase across the board. Large pipes and high flow mufflers for top end, and smaller pipes/more restrictive mufflers for low end.
If you want to spend 3k on a supercharger, then that's up to you. The 3 mod combo(Exhaust, intake, and a programmer/chip) gives a nice boost over stock, without emptying your bank account.,,,,98
So he's supposed to believe that a supercharger is the only alternative to stock?

Seems to me like that sort of hp without beefing up the truck would tear it apart.
I believe that I have seen it written on here the 4R70W is capable of 450 or 500HP without mods. Why would you change gears for a blower? I don't see the relation. Brakes can be modified or left the same, depends on how you drive.
ANd no, like I said, its not the only alternative its the most efficiant method to gain power
