on my truck the exhaust exits in front of the right rear wheel. i've noticed that most F150s I see exit behind the right rear wheel. Does anyone know why there is a difference? Does it make any difference? Does this imply anything else about the truck, such as option packages (e.g., towing, performance, etc.)?
thanks

I had a ’97 and Ford changed it. There was a problem with the exhaust turning the hubcap or rim green. I brought it in to the dealer (in 98) and they extended the exhaust to exit in the rear. The first thing they looked at was my rear wheel, when they saw it was green, they agreed to change it. It may have been a silent recall.
Ford did repair replace any wheels that were corroded under warranty and changed the exit to behind the wheel for the 98 model year. They also had a replacement system for the 97s to make them exit behind the wheel.
My 97 had the exhaust in front of the passenger rear wheel. My Borla did the same thing. Just before the lease was up I took it to Dealer and had all 5 wheels replaced. I rotated my wheels regularly and it corroded all 5. Yes I was one of the luckey ones that got 5 aluminum wheels.
I kept the Borla and it is now on my 00. I clean and polish the wheels on a regular basis and they are not corroding. The Lightnings have the exit in front of the wheel. Go figure.
