Question Simple exhaust question

I have never done or had someone else do exhaust work on anything. So I have a simple question. My stock pipe is 2.5". Is it possible to weld a tip with a 3" diameter inlet onto the 2.5" pipe? This would seem pretty simple to me since that's only a 1/4" gap.

Thanks for the help.

Not only is it possible, its easy. ALso, pipes can be expanded to some degree. I have 3 inch pipes and 2.5 inch inlet/outlet mufflers with 2.5inch tips
