Why would you do that? It will sound like a pulp wood truck. To answer your question no it won't hurt anything but let me guess you are a teenager... or you live in Alabama... maybe you just like sheep instead of women... in other words why would you hack the exhuast on a nice truck? just buy a thrush glass pack at Crappo Zone, Advanced High Prices, or O'Really's?. It might cost you $25 bucks and it keeps your truck from sounding sooooooooo much like *****!!! Given I hate glass packs but it is a cheaper alternative to hacking your exhaust.

or you can take off the muffler and replace it with a pipe flanged at both ends, itll sound pretty good being all the way out the back

It won't sound very good if you just cut the muffler off.

Go pawn some video games or something and scrap a few bucks together...then get you at least a glasspack or someones used flowmaster. Heck, if you lived near me, I would give you my old 40 series flowmaster off my old truck. Its rusty, but there are no holes in it. Its just sittin out in the shed collecting dust and providing a home for some spiders.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide.

A straight pipe or glass pack will cost less than a ticket for excessive noise.

I cut my exhaust off about parallel w/ the passenger door, and just ran piping and a tip out in front of the rear tire. Sound good at idle and partial throttle, but at WOT it sounds badass

so you took your muffler out and just put new piping on. i have my exhaust coming out in front of the back tire too, so should i just cut out the muffler and put a piece of pipe in the gap?

I agree with everybody else. Don't do it, it will sound like *****. But, even more importantly, If your sitting idle the exhaust fumes are going to get in your truck . At least put a piece of pipe in place of the muffler. I can't believe I just said that, I hate straight pipes. But it will definitly sound better than hacking off the muffler.

Me personally, I wouldn't see why not. Even if you try it, and don't like it, you could always find an aftermarket muffler or something to go in place of the new pipe.

Cut that baby off

Hey dude, i have a 98' 4.6 and my bro has a 99 with the 5.4. These engines are a very smooth sounding engine, we both cut the mufflers off (then piped it out the side just so when ur sitting idleing it doesnt sneek into the cab) but i must say it sounds awsome! If i had a nickle for every time someone asked me where i got my exhaust from i could retire young. Seriously, at idle its a nice mellow tone, and cruising down the highway if i turn off the radio i can just here it, but if i tromp on it she just roars, and not a bad roar, its a nice smooth soundin, nascar style roar. Thats why i like it dumped out the side in front of the back tire, looks awsome (with dual chrome tips) and when u tromp on it to pass somebody, they get alittle reinforcement to the fact that blue oval rules the road!

no big deal

no it will still sound good, just try not to sit in one place for to long idleing if your in the cab, u might get a little light headed! unless yah like that sort of thing i guess, No, im jokin u wont get light headed you may just smell it though, Im tellin yah man, ur gona love it, and if for some bizzarr reason u dont all u have to do is buy a $2.00 flange that connects two pipes of the same size and ur right back to quiet. But u wont have to worrie about that cuz ur gona love it, GOOD LUCK!
