I have the IMCO on my 4.6 (2001). It is definately a 10 on volume level. I have never heard anything louder in my experience. Don't get it unless you want a very aggressive sound level. I love it on my truck. But I wanted my truck to be as loud as I could get it. Drone isn't bad on mine at highway speeds. It is just really loud around town. Try to hear it on someones elses truck first before you buy. Its kind of a love it or hate it...you know what Im saying?

You may be happier with that 14" Magnaflow your considering.

Good Luck

Thanks dar dar, I might decide against the imco then. I want it loud enough, but not too loud. If it's a 10 on loudness, I probably don't need it.

fourpointsix,

That sucks that you guys live so far from LA. That's okay though. So the 14" is droney? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad on mine, who knows. I would like to have something just a hair louder than the flowmaster, and with the good sound of magnaflow, I'd say the 14 would be about right. But you did say the 18 you've got is louder than you thought. Interesting. Maybe you can make a sound clip of it sometime?? I'll be gone out there next week, but maybe I'll start looking online for a muffler soon after. So you did not get mandrel bent pipes, right? I'm going w/ regular bends from the muffler shop, SI/DO rear, possibly angled down and out to the side rear w/ stainless tips. Aren't the magnaflow tips about the best ones to get?

Higdogg, I am thinking the 14" Magnaflow would be perfect for you judging from what you have been saying. The 5.4L should quiet it down just enough to eliminate some drone. The 18" is probably too quiet for you. On this board, those with the 5.4L call it the muffler of choice and they all seem to find the volume perfect. They like their trucks quieter than we do, so the 18" would be too quiet. There is a guy on here (Jpdadeo) who is running a 14" Magnaflow with his 5.4L. You should try to get in contact with him and ask him about it. There's only 1 or 2 others that are running the short Magnaflow on a 5.4L. I'll try to find them for you. Is this going to be your first time in California? If so, I apologize for the bad impression LA is going to leave!

fourpointsix,

Yeah, it was my first time in LA or CA. Not bad, was busy all day for work and then went out at night to see hollywood and all that. Not too bad, good experience. If you live in TN, you never see anything like that. Saw tons of trucks out there that are lifted, probably mostly the 6" lifts and 35's or bigger. Tons of people out there have rims too, it's just not like that here. A lot of people here have lifts though. Everybody just complains about the costs of real estate and living out there. Sounds like you gotta make a fortune to live there, and then all these people drive around in nice trucks w/ lifts and stuff.

Higdogg, you summed it up perfectly right there. Housing is ridiculous in this state. The house I live in is a 3 bed/2 bath 1400 sq. feet and it will sell for over $600,000. This same house in Las Vegas will sell for less than $100,000. Generally in southern California things are more flashy but there are tons of vehicles with rims out here. Most of the people with those lifted trucks will never take them offroad in this state. They are just yuppies that will spend thousands of dollars to achieve the look they want.

fourpointsix,

That sounds accurate w/ what everyone there was saying as far as pricing on houses. I didn't know whether or not those people w/ lifted trucks and big tires would use it for off roading or not, I thought they might hit up the beaches or desert areas out there, and maybe even the mountains a little. How are you liking the 18" muffler? Still sound like you want it to?

Yeah with a dump it is perfect man! It got louder now that it's breaking in. Still almost silent at cruise. Very loud at WOT. I'm pleased with it.
