Exclamation Leaky exhaust after Gibson Header Install

I finally got aroung to putting my SS Gibson Shorty Headers on my truck and they went on great! Problem im having is a slight leak coming from the driver side. I went over ever bolt on both sides and they are plenty tight. It seems like its leaking from where the Y pipe meets the Header on that side. Has anyone else had a problem with Gibson Headers Leaking? Thanks

leaky drivers side

Hello, Man I am right there with as we speak. I have even got in touch with Gibson and have went through the hassel of them sending me a new one thinking the one I had was not welded up right. And yes I still have the same problem with the new one. Now I am to the point that I am considering having duals put on because I am tired of hasseling with these headers and don't want to touch them again. My only problem is I just put on a new JBL catback and I know if I try to sell it I'm just going to loose money. I have also considered just putting the stock manifolds back on, but I just don't feel like doing it.
Good Luck to you and let me know how you turn out.

OMG, At least im not going nuts. Is it a slight hissing under a load that your getting? For some reason I think its coming from the collector b/c it doesnt look like they mate up perfectly. Anyone else have this problem, this is getting aggrivating! Thanks

leaky drivers side

You have described my on going problem to a ( TEE ) . As long as the truck is idling everythng is ok, but if you are going down the road even at normal driving you can hear it leaking. And yes it is leaking is where the Y pipe mates up to the header. I can take mine loose and then bolt it up again and drive it for a couple of days and every thing is fine but then I guess viberation causes it to slip down and the noise is back. I am going to check into having a whole new exhaust ( duals ) made from the header all the way out the back.
Keep me in touch if you find a fix.

What size nut is it? I can barely get a wrench in there to tighten it anymore.

hey, i have the same problem, the only difference is that i have pacesetter headers and not gibson. i had them installed at a shop and they have been leaking since then but only under load. i just figured that the bolts needed to be retorqued and i havent had time to get to it but now i see that might not be the case. think im just gonna have duals made next year, hopefully that will take care of it.

Truck has been in and out of an exhaust shop not once, but twice. Still leaking and still on an angle. Both times I was told the leak was fixed, but yet they didnt drive it. I guess the only way to get things done right is to do it yourself. Looks like I have to drop down the Cats and bend the pipe myself

I was told by the exhaust shop that the collector was egg shaped and thats why the header keeps leaking. I just got off the phone with gibson and they told me that they would send me a new one, but they had to charge me $170 for the new one! They said they would refund the money once they received the old header and they inspected it for defects. Has anyone had any problems with not getting refunded after they received the old header?

Swapped out the header today and this is what I found! Now the collectors leaks because its out of round! I CANT WIN! I better get refunded for this header.
