I want to buy a new exhaust for my '99 F-150 4.6L . I had a Gibson but it rotted out in about 3 years from the salt used in the winter. I want a exhaust that will last more than a few years. I was looking at Magnaflow and Flowmaster 40. Should I go with a stainless or not? I live in western New York.

Hi!

I would go with the Magnaflow Stainless. I also live in WNY, Clarence area. I have a 2001 F-150 that I installed a Magnaflow DI/DO Stainless system. It's been on there a couple years now and looks great and no signs of rust. I did have a Flowmaster DI/DO that wasn't stainless and I only got three years before it fell apart due to rust. My Magnaflow cost me about $360, definately not bad for a stainless system! This was a couple years ago, so i'm not sure what they cost today. I purchased mine from Full-Line exhaust in Gerogia, you may want to look them up.

Here is there number, very nice people to deal with. 1-800-264-8035

whichever muffler you choose, make sure it is stainless if you want it to last up there
as for which brand of muffler, it is all personal preference, flowmaster and magnalfow seem to be the most popular

If your Gibson is the SS version, it's warrantied for life, take some pics, call them and get a new system free. If it's the aluminized pipe then there isn't much you can do. No matter which company you decide on, spend the extra $$$ and get SS. You're only asking for the system to rot out again if you don't. A guy in my squadron had a Flowmaster system installed at the local muffler joint. The tail pipes are rusting already and he's had to take it back to have leaks at the welds fixed twice. You get what you pay for...

KC-10 FE out...

I'd go with a Borla SST system...costs a little more, but has a million mile warranty on it. I've got a Borla Stinger cat-back on my Mach 1 and it's a very well designed product.
