Question Looking For Mike T....Magnaflow Cat Question?

I have a 1999 ford F150. It has 4 catalytic converters on it. According to my local Shop I need to replace the cats with 4 because of the ODBII computer in the truck. He states the check engine light will come on and stay on if I don't. I want to replace the system with 2 Magnaflow High Flow cats. Will this work? or do I need to go with the 4 cat system that is in there. I know Magnaflow makes the Small front cats as well as the rear cats and a Direct replacement system? Any input on this will be helpful.

Thanks to the F-150 online family for all the great information on this site.

Hi.

Short answer: - Yes.

Long answer:

You are looking for him in the wrong place

Either Search the 'chips' forum for info, or call him directly.

This has been discussed many times - that's why I recommend a search... and also to jive with Joey.

Here's a thread that may help answer your question:

And, here's a link to the product, with even more info on usage:

Cheers & good luck!

Yes that will work fine, I have the same setup with the magnaflow cats. As long as you have one cat in front of that O2 sensor, it will be fine. And you can even do a quick search on O2 simulators and do without cats if you want. The simulators run about $35.

Grog, my favorite cave dweller, I can always count on you to, at least, provide good links to go along with the "USE THE DAMN SEARCH FEATURE".

Thanks, Joey.

Gotta help the noobs, but resist handing out too many spoons...

.. and thanks for your tolerance, ability to lend perspective, and for possessing a great sense of humour!

Above all, the point is to have fun, and not take all this truck stuff too seriously

Cheers!

Are you CA or 49 state?

If you are 49 state use the 91000 series small oval and the 94000 series small oval behind it.

If you want a direct-fit part you need to specify the motor configuration and driveline. The 4.6 and 5.4Ls have differnent inlet pipes and the 2wd and 4wd drive have different pipe locations.

Those are your legal methods as emissions compliance requires 1 for 1 cat replacement and O2 sensors within 1 inch of OE locations.

For Check Engine to stay off use 2 43000 Large ovals placing it between the up stream and down stream sensors. If you want to delete the cats, custom tuning (Diablosport) can shut the rear sensors off or you get some simms.
