X or H pipes, do they help???

I have an 03 F150 with the 4.6L and 4 stupid catalytic (spell) converters. I'd like to put true duals with 1 chamber Extreme IMCO's on each side. From what I've read an H or X pipe helps with back pressure and torque. Is this ture? If so, where do I need to mount the X or H pipe behind the converters? Mid ways back, toward the back or closer to the converters. Exhaust pictures with X or H pipes would really help if anybody has those. So send me some photos of duals, with an X or H pipe being used. Thanks everyone.

Why don't you just do a DIDO muffler? That way you don't need two mufflers and it incorporates the x-pipe into it. That's what I did with my conversion. I took a Magnaflow system for the Harley F150 Supercharged edition (which is a DIDO system) and put it on my truck which was SISO.

Whatever you do, taking out the stock y-pipe will improve your exhaust flow. The cats will make minimal difference, as they are pretty free-flowing as-is, not to mention it is illegal to remove them in any state.

Why are you considering a baffle muffler for performance? A Magnaflow DIDO would be a wise decision. Choose the Imco muffler if you like its sound. Buy the Magnaflow #15609 for performance.

I want sound and performance, from what everyone has been saying and what I've read IMCO gives you that. MagnaFlow sounds way too wimpy.

Hmm, I read someone say their Imco cost them torque at low engine speeds. Pick the smallest Maganflow (or any other) straight-through muffler design for a chance at performance.

You would want to place the X or H pipe as close to the engine (after the cats) as possible.

This is what I would do if I was younger..... Cut out the stock Y pipe and put an X pipe in it's place. Run 2.5" dual pipes to where the stock muffler would normally go and with the DIDO muffler of your choice continue with dual 2.5" pipes to the rear with some 3.5" SS tips.

OR, do the same thing with the X pipe and place the muffler closer to where you would have the pipes exit in front of the pass side rear tire (like the Lightnings do). That will put the muffler basically under the cab and the pipes just outside of the pass side window and you'll really hear that sucker then!

You could always go without a muffler too.... Heard of lots of guys doing that... I personally would not do that, but I'm old now too!! ha, ha!

I did away with the need for the X or H pipe by getting rid of the factory Y-pipe and running dual pipes into a DI/SO Flowmaster SUV 50 series Deltaflow with a 3" tailpipe.
