Now, if you want noise, that's a "whole 'nother" story.
So now I'm curious... if the performance with stock pipes is adequate, should I just get a drop and swap replacement can that flows more freely, or is the entire cat-back system preferrable?

My ultimate plan is to install an AEM cold air intake, Edge dash-top tuner and some type of Magnaflow* exhaust - I just don't know if I need a fulll cat-back or will I get any useful gains from retaining the stock pipes. *I read that Borlas and others are too loud, and drone annoyingly at highway RPMs.

I'm seeking improved towing performance while avoiding the awful drone on the highway, where we spend most of our time towing. I'd like side exhausts, not rear exhaust, that daylight behinid the axle, just like the stock configuration. Improved mileage is a bonus, but I have to be able to pass emissions every year (or every two years, I'm not sure).

Any ideas?

Oh yeah - I'm driving an '06 Crew Cab with the 6.5' bed. For ordering purposes, is this length comparable to the Ext. Cab with a long (8') bed? I'm not seeing my body style listed on any of these sites.

Borla's are not loud at all, just expensive as hell. I have the single side exit cat back on my 97 4.6L truck. Quiet at idle, and smooth when excellerating. No cab noise at all.

Same question as the one above... What do you all think. Can I get the results I want with the drop in 14258, or do I need the whole cat back 16616 (both magnaflows). I'm looking for better, louder sound and also what ever power or MPG gains their might be. Opinions?

What's it like at idle and running down the road? Noticeable or do you just notice it when you are accelerating?
