Magnaflow cat-back stock v. Custom job w/ Magnaflow muffler?

Lookin' for feedback here.

As several of you have read, I'm very much interested in the 16614 cat-back system from Magnaflow. I have slight reservations about doing the job myself, just because I've never done anything with exhaust. It seems quite simple, if you take the time to do it right. I also note, thanks to FX4ME2, that a slight modification needs to be done to have the straight back pipes installed around the OEM tow hitch.

Anyway, I got a price quote of $485.95 today for a SI/DO Magnaflow muffler with 2.5" pipe, large (I believe 4" stainless tips - rolled steal lips) all custom welded to fit my truck bottom. The pipes are welded rather than just hanging. The guy raved and raved about the quality of the work and the shop has a good reputation.

My questions concern anything lost by not going Magnaflow stock all the way? Also, he recommended a longer muffler since I have a S'crew cab (help elminate noise in the rear of the cab). It was the 12258 muffler (24" total/18" muffler) with his custom piping; wish I had the exact stats on the two tips but they were sharp as hell. I'm 50/50 on this decision.

My thoughts against a muffler shops version is the following: 1- was the bending of the pipes, 2-my local shop didn't weld with stainless wire,3-If i had to have work done on the engine or trans, it would have to be cut off and re-welded. 4- i didn't like the fact that someone was taking a chance on damaging my electronics on my $30,000. plus truck.5- Magnaflow has proven performance gains vs. the muffler shops salesmans B.S. 6- Call me crazy, but i like the idea of removing it if necessary.

Can't you order the complete system for about $375 shipped, then have a local shop install it (weld if you'd like)? That'll take a good shop 30 minutes and <$50. The only reason to go with a custom install is price, and this shop is not giving you any discount. Not only that, but this guy is giving you a 12000 series muffler, alunimized steel and probably aluminized pipes. What a scam! He'll have about $100 in materials and charge you almost $500! Dude, save yourself the headache 3 years down the road and get the 100% stainless steel system.

The other major thing is performance. No shop will dyno test their work to know they are getting the most performance like aftermarket companies do. They spend the money up front to get the best design, then let machines make the parts all day long for the same performance every time.

You mentioned that you got your system from performance peddler. Do you have any contact info or website for this resource? I am looking for Kit 16612 for my new 2005 crew cab.

Not bad. I wondered how low you could get them to go with the best offer feature. I got my Harley Magnaflow system for $400 shipped through them.

Just go to www.performancepeddler.com for their website.

im sure it would work you would probrobly get more use from a cat back, I have a cat back system and love it. you would get better results from a mandrel bent unit, than using the stock pipe less restriction.
