imco catback

you got a sound clip and did you do dual out the back or side, also how much did it run you to get the pipes?
I bought an IMCO 1-chamber SI/SO 3 inch diameter. I ran a 3 inch pipe over my axle to a 24x3.5 inch angle cut tip that comes out at a 45 degree angle behind the rear tire. It looks great and the truck sounds mean as hell. The install cost me $140. Go to http://www.grabthepower.com for IMCO's website. Their F150 4.6L clip sounds identical to my truck. Way louder in person though.

hey one more thing is there a big power difference or not really its just mainly sound and look, cause I was thinking of removing the cats doing an x pipe with the imcos out the back. But I am also on a bit of tight budget. Just wondering.

Don't.
Removing cats is illegal and morally irresponsible, plus there will not be any noticeable power increase; the stock units flow just fine.
X-pipe and duals on these N/A stock trucks just plain kills low-end torque - not a real good idea.

Best setup is a SISO 3" catback of the type actually tested to ensure the low-end is not impacted--- such as:

Of course, if you are only interested in sound and don't care about a ( negative) effect on performance, go with what sounds best to you, and fits your budget... Slowmasters, for example ;-))

Anyway, I completely missed the Magnaflow SIDO you already have on there, which I would not change anytime soon, as it can support PLENTY of power above what you're making, including being able to support a supercharger - this is all just another one of many reasons why I don't like to get into details here, but instead prefer to do that over the phone (or in person).
Just give me a call on Monday (or whenever you can - I'll set aside your new tuning/order until you & I talk personally about all this) to go over all of this in proper detail, so we can confirm your *proper* configuration, which exact mods actually need to be done now, and take into consideration what all you plan to do in the future too, so your money is best spent. The order you placed is "in line," and we do NOT charge the credit card until AFTER the custom tuning is actually completely done and everything is ready to ship out the door. So if we need to, we can still easily make changes to your order and the custom tuning on that for you if need be, and I'll set your order aside for you & I to do a consultation on - so don't worry about that aspect.
Just please give me a call on Monday (or as soon as you can) so we can go over all of this correctly for your needs, OK?
Thanks & talk to you soon!

I have a couple questions regarding the same topic and that Magnaflow system.
If I purchase that entire system, will a local shop install it for me? What about just purchasing the muffler and having a shop install that? If so what model is that muffler? I've been to the Magnaflow site and am lost in all the choices. What size, shape Single Out, Double out, etc...
Is there an advantage with the SI/SO? I would think SI/DO would be better, but I don't know?
I'm pretty convinced that this system definitely helps power, but what does it do to mileage? Is anyone experiencing better economy with the Magnaflow exhaust?
Thanks in advance for your patience in answering all my question.
BTW, this is my first post and I LOVE my new 05 King Ranch! Had it only a week now. I was used to an 02 Scab and this thing gets worse mileage! Ouch!
Hi KR. Welcome to the site! That is definately one sweet truck!
The usual response to custom versus a catback system is that the (Magnaflow) catback is engineered as a unit and maintains exhaust gas velocity. A custom pipe job, may or may not achieve the same results - you are at the mercy of the skill of the fabricator.
Local installers vary as much as exhausts - do some checking to ensure they will install a system you bring in if not purchased from them, for a reasonable fee. Lots of rip-offs out there, and what the guy loses on markup he may hit you with on labour - he's gotta eat too. Also, check on the gurarantee stuff.
If you have some able buddies, you might consider installing it yourself... it's not that difficult, escpecially on a brand-new truck where the factory system isn't all siezed up yet ;-))
SISO versus SIDO: on these trucks according to Mike Troyer the SISO still has a slight advantage, but the SIDO looks fantastic.
The mufflers ( I could be wrong ) for these are usually 5x8x18. You can substitute a 5x8x24 for a little less drone/noise, if your need to. Spring for the SS units over aluminized for looks and longevity. I went with the 24 and love it, but I did dynamat the entire cab to kill the droning that was still there, between 1600-1800 rpm. And, One of these days, I WILL replace that factory Y pipe!
Your mileage may and will vary - I wouldn't count on just an exhaust upgrade to have much of an impact on that, but there are those who say they have experienced results. I didn't. Idid, however ( driving style notwithstanding ;-)), from the other mods.
Exhausts are usually 3rd on the list for bang-for-buck mods. Custom tuning is first, intake second, and even underdrives/efans are good bets for mileage because the reduce parasitic losses and do not use more fuel.
Spend some time learning the Search functions here and you will dig up lots of great info on these topics.
Cheers

Thanks!
I'm probably going to do the intake first. Then the exhaust. I still haven't decided about the tuning, don't want to have to spend even more $$$ on an ongoing basis for prem. gas and don't want to lose the towing capacity.
I need to do more research on this "underdrives/efans", as I've not seen any of these. Though I do understand how reducing the number of items in the pully configuration would have less drain on the motor.
Do you have a underdrive you recommend?
I was pretty much decided on the K&N intake, but now I don't know. This AirForce sounds pretty good?
Anyway
Thanks again.

KR - go have a look at www.troyerperformance.com
Everything you need is there.
As for custom tuning, it really should be your first mod - Mike Really wakes up the 2004-2005 platform. You will not lose your towing capability, you will gain some, and you can switch between octane levels you specify, and tailored to your needs. Plus a lot more....
Browse the Chips and Programming forum for many more details and testimonials of folks with your type of truck and those mods.
And you can call Troyer for a consultation.
Cheers
