flowmaster vs. magnaflow

I currently have a set of true dual 2 chamber flowmasters on my 2004 f-150 crew cab 5,4lt. Well I ran over my mothers car yesterday and damaged my exhaust and I was considering swapping my flows for a set of true dual magnaflows. I was wondering how they compared as far as pure oerfiormance gains. I was hopping that I could get some help. Thanks

Blake

Right now I am running a Magnaflow SI/DO muffler (12158) that sounds very strong. One thing I did was to remove the cats since they were 111K miles old. I assume you will be using your OEM cats and I don't know how much difference is with the Hi-flow. I know there is. I am super happy with the set up.

I don't have any experience with Flowmasters. I know they sound good. I did own a Gibson Supertruck that I enjoyed a lot but the actual combination sounds deeper.

magnaflow flows onlt 32CFM more then flowmasters do which means not a noticable performance gain for the price difference

Blake,

How do you like the sound of your true dual flowmasters? What does it sound like? I like the flowmaster sound and I'm going to get flowmaster original 40 or super 40 for my '04 f150. I was considering the same setup as you, but flowmaster actually told me that running true duals on my '04 f150 5.4 would cause a loss in power. Did you notice anything, or how exactly did you have yours set up? Did you get it tuned or anything? Have you heard what a super 40 sounds like on the new f150's, and how it compares to the original 40?

I really like the sound of the flowmaster on my truck and no I didnt lose anypower. I did get a noticable powergain, but I have heard too many good things about the magna flow not to look into it. Oh and I ran over the car backing out of the frive way not paying atention.

Faster, do you have more information about the test results you have posted? I really have a hard time believing some of the results.

Blake,

Are you wanting better performance out of a muffler more than good sound? I have heard that the magnaflows are considerably quieter than flowmaster even though they are supposed to flow much better. The magnaflow is good sounding, but only if you put your foot into it, and even then its not the deep growl that flowmaster has. If I were 10 years older, I'd probably buy the magnaflow depending on my preferences, but right now I still like a deep growl instead of a quiet baby growl......and I'm not one of those people that likes the annoying exhaust systems.

the magnaflow number shown above is not for the straight thru design. its for their chambered muffler.

Me too. I saw the chart earlier, but questioned the results. I didn't even know the used Magnaflow's turbo muffler, for example.

How much are the Imco mufflers?
