Local Install of Exhaust
Local Install of Exhaust
There is a similar thread about this topic.
First off, I've looked around a gotten info on a catback Magna flow system. Everything I could find was around $400, and that's not installed. I went to a local muffler shop (Kinney's http://www.kinneysmufflershop.com/home.html) to get some more info on an exhaust for my 05 150. This is apparently a Very reputable shop and their work looks awesome. I was quoted $395 for a true dual catback Magnaflow with tips, installed. They guarantee their work and they've been around here in texas for 25+ years.
So the question is....why pay $400 plus install for a Single in/single or dual out prefab after the y pipe setup when I can get a custom true dual for less? He explained that I would see a significant increase in hp over the kit system vs the true dual. Can anyone shed some light on this??
THanks,
Landon

i was in the same boat as you. looked everywhere on the net tring to find a good deal on the exhaust. called the local guy that does really good work and it was 350.00 installed. for the true dualls with the tips. its a polished s.s.muffler from magnaflow and he has a life time on the pipes also. so wy pay 200 more for something and still have to have it installed.
Kinney's is, from what I've heard, the best muffler shop around. However, I believe they still use small diameter crush-bent aluminized pipes. I just don't like muffler shops becaus of those reasons, and sloppy welds and the way they hack things together. I haveb;t been to Kinney's before, though. They claim to be much better about that, but who knows.
Also, when you say "true duals" I assume you mean two mufflers? Surely that price isn't for real true duals with headers, a couple high-flow cats, and X or H pipe, then two mufflers.
The true dual setup you are talking about will be going from two manifolds, through the cats, into the y-pipe, then splitting back off to go throgh two mufflers. Why would this yield more performance than a single muffler with less "obstacles" to go around?
Not knocking you're decision either way, I just have had bad experiences with muffler shops before.

They cut right after the Cats, get rid of the y pipe and goes into a two inlet muffler with an X-cross over design, the out two out puts. How is that not a true dual? I asked the owner of Kinney's why he wouldn't reccomend replacing the stock cat and he informed me that the stock ones are very capable and wouldn't need replacing with a "high flow" unit until I reach 50,000 miles. He said it would be a waste of money....and that's coming from a guy who makes a living selling this stuff. The whole system they install is stainless steel, uncluding the tips. If you're anywhere near dallas I suggest you come check this place out......their product and service is stellar.

im all for your TRUE dually ordeal, i just did the exact same thing with my exhaust, but i didnt get magna flow, just because i like the way IMCO sounds...it was about the same you paid for your whole setup, but i paid with a credit card, and we unfortunately have tax, so i ended up paying 480 installed out the door and on the road.
BUT i got the tips and i think the same exact set up as you, and honestly, anything that causes LESS restriction is better...so for the air to try and come out through ONE compared to 2 exhaust systems...isnt as efficient, and you have to admit, duallys just sound so much better...lol i have two seperate exhaust...nothing combines..just right from the headers, straight on out to the rear, one on each cat.
so far there are 2 of us out here locally with true duals...and yes i can say its true duals because they installed each system BEFORE the "Y" and on the 05 models, the cats are installed before the "Y" and are seperated from one another, so you are literally coming straight off the headers....how true does it get? maybe if we cut out our cats and fail some smog inspections...then yea...lol but besides that, its duallys !!!
i will post some pictures for you guys once i get them in!
