What exhaust for a V6?

I'm looking to get a good sounding exhaust for my girlfriend's 2002 F150 with the V6. She bought it used, and the clown she bought it from put a Flowmaster 50 series that he had exit before the right rear tire with one of those cheesy double tips. The truck has an extremely ricey sound at all RPMs, and naturally we want to change this. I'm guessing part of the problem comes from the tip, and I will replace that with a stainless steel angle cut tip, because they sound a lot deeper. Secondly, the muffler also seems to be part of the problem. The best V6 I've heard was (sadly) a toyota V6 with a Magnaflow muffler. Would this be a good choice, or are there other brands that will sound better? (Gibson, Dynomax, etc?) I know how to make a V8 sound good, but am stumped with the V6! Thanks for your help guys!

well youll proly never get it to sound as good as a v-8, i had a ranger with a v-6 and it sounded ok with a cherry bomb, i have not really heard much bout them fancy big named mufflers on them

since its a v-6 it may sound good and still not be too loud with strait pipes, good luck finding somethin...

Anybody have experience with Dynomax? I've been looking at these for both her and my truck - all this talk on this forum about Flowmaster not flowing well is getting to me! Is the Ultra Flow muffler comparable to a Magnaflow or what?

I had a Flowmaster 50 on my previous truck-a 4.0 Ranger. I thought it sounded sweet. The 4.2 F-150 is a totally different animal, though. I have several friends with 4.2 5-speeds, and I think the Warlock sounds the best. It allows you to run capped or uncapped, which is essentially a glasspack or a complete stock-sounding exhasut. You can take the cap on and off with three wing nuts, too. Easy to swap out for a change, and sounds good uncapped.

Brian, that'd be cool for me, but the girlfriend won't want to be capping and uncapping anything; she wants it loud all the time anyway! Any ideas?

I have a friend that got a Flowmaster "super 40" put on, but took it off soon after as it wasn't very loud. He now has a cheapo bullit muffler from summit. It sounds pretty good too.

I heard a V6 F150 at the mall today with a SI/DO 40 series Flowmaster with long (24 inch?) chrome angle cut tips that sounded pretty darn good. How would the truck sound above 2000 RPMs with this set up?

40 series Flow is going to be quieter than a glasspack or bullet muffler. The 4.2 sounds different than most v-6 engines due to their 'equal fire' firing sequence. I always thought they sounded pretty good for a V-6 though, no matter what kind of exhaust. They do pop a lot when you let off the throttle or are just revving it up. All of my friends with the 4.2 have the exhaust dumped on the ground right after the muffler, so I can't comment on what they sound like with full piping out the back.

i have the si/do 40 series on mine with long tips that come out at a 45.
they sound real good when you are getting on it while driving (entering the interstate) all the way up but will make popcorn for you if you get it over 3.5K just revving it.
