Interior Drone with 50 series flowmaster

I have a 05 supercrew that I am looking at just installing a new muffler, not a whole cat back. I was looking for a magnaflow but every shop I called told me to put in a flowmaster. I got a quote for $140 OTD on a series 50 installed but I dont want a loud droning in the cab. Does any one have this muffler and how is the interior noise? Did you notice a loss in torque?

You will not notice a loss in torque but you probably will experience some droning during cruise. Most of the shorter Flowmasters cause this, although probably not as much in your case with a single tube and side exit. The Magnaflow carries a lifetime warranty.

I didn't notice a loss in torque but this is by "feel" of course. I hadn't dynoed it before and after. Plus I changed so many things (such as gears, intake...) at the same time it would be hard to tell.

The interior drone only happens at highway speeds but on the highway I have the windows up anyway. If it still bothers you in the city, put Dynamat all around the cab. You'll get better music and very little noise. Cost is a little high though at ~$500.

PS Get the new stainless steel version of the DeltaFlow 50 Series. The other kind will rust out in about 2 years depending on where you live.

Yup - Dynamat is the way to go - do it yourself and save $$$. Took me all day, though ;-))

I went with Magnaflow, and still had some drone between 1700-2000 rpm, hence the Dynamat solution. Works great.

Plus I didn't end up affecting the low-end torque... despite what you read, or whether you can 'feel' it or not (other mods notwithstanding), Flows *will* reduce your bottom end somewhat. That's fact - deal with it and move on.

Flows do sound good to a lot of people and if sound is your most important consideration, go for it ( there now - BigTruck would be proud of me ;-)).

And yes - whatever you do... unless you live in the desert and drive around puddles, go stainless.

Cheers
