mandrel bent pipes

mandrel bend vs. crush bend (exhaust pipes)

i talked to a guy who told me that there is no difference between the two pipes pertaining to flow restriction through the bends unless you are dealing with horsepower in the neighborhood of 500. he specifically was talking about dual outs.

any truth there?

With lower horsepower applications, I can't imagine that it'd make that much of a difference; but my attitude has always been that every little bit helps.

It really depends how crushed the bends are.

The pipe diameter in the curves is greater with mandrel bent. Yes, it effects flow. Yes, machines vary. No, you're not likely to feel it in the seat of your pants on a mild vehicle driven on the street.
