You have to twist the mid-pipe, as it is notched. Take a good look at it and you will see what I am talking about. Also, you should cut just behind the stock muffler to get the assembly off, unless you have a lift. Good luck.
what do you mean by mid pipe?
I cut it off behond the muffler BUT the dam thing is still on. Hit it with a hammer and still can not get it apart.
Also the clamp seems to be weld on, is that correct?

Yes, the clamp on the end of the Y pipe is spot welded on, leave it that way.
He's right, it's probably rusted on...my truck has 12,000 miles on it, and it was "tough" to get off, but by no means hard to do or rusted on -- it does fit up in there a ways though, a good few inches so it took a few kicks/feet pushes to get mine out.

Thanks for your help guys.
I figured out what the hold up was.
There is a notch on the top of the pipe (from the muffler to the cat) that goes into a L shaped slot. You can not see it from the bottom but you can feel it. By the way I have an '05. You can pound on it all you want and it will never come off. You need to rotate the muffler (I unscrewed the hanger clamps to do so) then it came right out.
NOW, the hanger just behind the muffler seems to be about 1/2" to 1" off. I can not fully engage it into the rubber bushing which bothers me. Any ideas?
thanks again

Yea. I just took a screw driver and pried the lip of the pipe up far enough to allow the rivet to slip out. Then hammered it back down. Pretty soft. I also ditched the original clamp in favor of a stainless steel band clamp. The middle hanger just barely makes contact. Just enough for the flared tip to stick in the rubber. The front and back hangers seem to be in securely. If the whole assembly seems rock solid, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it bugs you or the assembly seems weak there, a muffler shop could prolly re- position and re-weld that hanger to position better in the rubber. Check out my gallery and you'll probably see what yours looks like!
Thanks Raadlen!!
