4x4/Towing exhaust
4x4/Towing exhaust
I see this forums is just rittled with threads about exhuast. So I will try to refrain from the most controversial things.
Anywho.
I need to know what is a good exhaust for some 4x4 75% of the time and boat towing (16foot) 25% of the time.
Sound is good. I like sound. But I do not want to be going down a hill backwards when towing. Nor do I want to get stuck in the mud.
I like split rear however if this will hurt me on performance then I can live without it.
Brands? Well. Local guy told me gibson. He has it on his truck. But raither then take one mans word on it. I will go to a world of men.
Other Data:
I have a K&N 77 Series High Flow intake on the truck allready and it is a 4.6L. It is a 2004 Heritage. So do I go 03 on the specs or 04?

I like my Gibson SI/SO. It's only barely loder than stock but it sounds much better than stock. Gibson's website does not recommend using dual out the rear for towing. Gibson has a lifetime warranty on their stainless steel systems.

Mopst people are happy with their Gibson systems, but there have been reports on here of the baffles coming loose and rattling. And for the cost of their stainless system, you can get more power with a better designed Magnaflow. I recommend the Magnaflow #15609 for the most performance for a stock 97-03 F-150, which is the same of your 04 Heritage. #15749 is the split rear system, but it will not get quite as much power. Besides, people that tow dont' recommend rear exit exhausts as they dump the exhaust gases right on their boat, RV, etc.
No dumping your exhaust onto your boat won't hurt it unless you're boat is a foot off of your bumper and your not moving for hours at a time. Otherwise it will just flow around like the rest of the air. As far as a travel trailer I might see concerns with co but very, very limited. Afterall they are sealed fromt he weather, even more so up front so when your driving into a rain it doesn't leak inside. I think it is more of a cya thing on behalf of the manufactuer.
If you run pipes out the back, you can sometimes get an annoying echo off the trailer.
Doesn't happen all the time, I guess it depends on a lot of factors. Perhaps the echo would be greater off a flat-front trailer (like a camper) versus a boat...?
But I've heard it a couple times on camper-type trailers and it was terrible; the solution in both cases was to just re-route the pipes out the side.
