Header Question

So, I want to change my headers, and I was just wondering what everyone recommended. I found a set of JBA's for around 650.00 but that seemed a little pricey...or is it worth the money?

Thanks for any help!

I have the JBA's (1679-SJT). The reason they are more expensive is they are stainless and they are a thicker guage (14) as opposed to (16) like most other headers. IMO a very quality product. $650 is the price I paid shipped.

in my opinion if you are spending that mutch on a set of headers you might as well spend an extra $300 for a set of long tubes for $950 you will get twice the power and low end tourq from a set of long tubes i think dynatech makes them

Good point Bigtruck. The only problem is the disclaimer at the bottom of the Dynatech page.

NOTE: These products are intended for racing and off-road applications. Not legal for sale or use in the state of California, nor in states which have adoptedCalifornia emission standards.

Puts a damper on it.

Since it has been proven that shorties gain nothing over stock manifolds, does that mean that long tubes will gain double nothing?

Seriously, headers are not the place to go if you are looking for power from a relatively stock engine. Your manifolds are the same as the ones used on the Lightning - they flow plenty well.

Jeeps&Fords, you just love to disagree with me dont you? you wont gain much from the shortys 5-10 hp 10-15 tourq at the flywheel depending on how modded you are you can expect twice that from the long tubes but it will biuld more low end torq and less on the top end, i would put that money towards a procharger or kenny bell supercharger if you are really looking for more hp torq

I agree, for the price of these headers it isn't worth it if you think it's going to give you a substantial gain in HP because it won't, and I definitely wouldn't spend the money just because it looks cool or just to be able to say you have it. If you want a substantial gain in HP there are better ways of doing it for that much money. But on the same hand I would get the dynotech headers if your looking to spend that much money on headers. It's definitely a great product!

bigtruck - I'm not doing it on purpose. It has been proven by other members of this site that shorties gain absolutely nothing over stock manifolds. Guys that race Lightnings didn't go any faster after installing shorties. I haven't read about anyone here installing long tubes and testing them, so I don't know if they are any better.

And, hey, don't we still have some drinking to do?

long tubes are cheaper then u think.....

04-05 model 4.6 and 5.4L
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

97-03

both are under 300 bucks and come with same warranty dynatech offers... pacesetter is fairly good brand... id recomend spending the extra for ceramic coating

It's not so much the expense that concerns me, yeah that's a great price but it'd be connecting the long tubes to the rest of my exhaust system and staying legal.....mine is not a race truck, its my daily driver and we are subject to emissions testing here where I live not to mention they setup trucks on the side of the road to catch cheaters, if you know what I mean.

Oh yeah and not to mention that all the long tubes are for 2wd and more that likely will NOT fit 4wd trucks (like mine)....

yeh i dont beleive they makes long tubes for 4wd unless u go with a custom install.. most people arent going for like ultra performance when its a 4wd... arguably...but if u can find long tubes for the 4wd more power to you... they just started making them for the 2wd so might be some time before they have em on the 4wd models

I don't know if log tubes will fit on the drivers side because of the t-case and drive shaft, would be a tight fit for sure....
