Magnaflow Muffler Question

I purchased a 22" (12589) Magnaflow muffler for my 2004 5.4 Lariat Supercrew 4X4 a few days ago. I had been online and heard a wide variety of sound clips for numerous muffler types but ended up going with the suggestion of the folks that installed it for me. I told them I didn't want the sound the be obnoxious but wanted to hear it. They took me on a ride in a Dodge Ram (Hemi) that they had just installed a 22" in and it sounded awesome, so I took the plunge and went with it. After it was installed I started the engine and was rather disappointed. It was no louder than the original. When I started driving, the sound increased but had a mid-range monotone sound that (from inside the cab) didn't sound all that great (like moaning). I have noticed my fuel consumption has gotten better but am bummed that the muffler doesn't sound all that great. Is there anything I can do to make it better without buying a new muffler? I am putting a K&N FIPK on next week. Will that make a difference in the way it sounds? A friend suggested a resonator but I'm not sure what that would do for me. Any suggestions? Thanks!
