4.6L Reg. Cab Short Bed Exhaust

Alright guys, I need some help here. I have a 2003 4.6L Reg. Cab Short Bed Exhaust 4WD and am looking for a cat-back system. I was leaning towards the Magnaflow over the Gibson after reading on this site, but they do not offer a kit for my application. Any advice is appreciated.

Also any recommendations on single outlet or dual outlet. I know on the Gibson kit it said that you could not run a dual outlet without removing the spare tire. Is this true, because I would prefer a dual outlet system but I am not removing the spare tire.

Thanks

I have the same truck but 05 and been looking for exhaust also. I know Gibson Dual Sport Exhaust exits on the same side just not sure of the sound and performance it gives. Would like some ideas from others also. Not many options with reg cab

well it depends on how much sound you want. Personally, if you want some growly, deep toned noise, go with straight pipes. Either cut out your muffler, weld in a Y pipe then dual tailpipes and tips, or run true duals off of your factory converters. The sound is great, not too much to be annoying, but people hear it when you step on it.
Good thing about straight pipes: cheap! No buying expensive mufflers that you may or may not like. If you get tired of straights after a while, weld in a set of mufflers of your choice.
I have straights on my 98 4.6 and i love it.
You could have full straight pipes run off your converters (true duals), tailpipes out under the bumper with tips, installed for $200-$250 at any exhaust shop.
You can get much cheaper exhausts than the pre-made Gibson or Magnaflow that sound just as good or better.

Or if you still want mufflers, just buy the magnaflow mufflers and SS tips, and get your local exhaust shop bend up some piping and install it for you. Works out to the same cost as a complete system...sometimes cheaper.

Shoot. I have the same truck (4.6L Reg Cab Short Box) and I was hoping to get the Magnaflow 15609's, even though they're designed for the x-cab. Isn't there a way to modify the system so it will fit?

It seems to me that it would just be longer to account for the longer distance, couldn't you just shorten up the tubes... maybe I am wrong. Let me know.

15609 requires mods..

Hi.

This is from TP's site:
---------------------------------------------
Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust System for 1997-2004 Ford F-150 V8
15609 Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system for the 1997-2004 Ford F-150 with 4.6 or 5.4 V8 engines.(Note: On 2004 ,models, fits 2004 Heritage models ONLY - for new body style 2004 F-150 models, use Magnaflow system #15821.)

Fits most body configurations in 2WD or 4WD, Extended cab short-bed (which is by far the most common) as well as SuperCrew. Can also be used on the very rare Extended cab long-bed configurations with a short additional length of stainless tubing which we can supply. For the 1997 Short Cab/Short Bed body configuration, this system will require modifications.
----------------------------------------------

So, for the short cab/bed - looks like you can use tis one ( with mods - ask Mike).

For the 2004 +, use #15821 ( with mods, I dunno - again, ask Mike).

Please don't run straight pipes - some guy around here tried that; and not only was it too loud (the cops were called), but it sounded Sh$$ty. Of course, it was a chebby, so no wonder ;-)).

Cheers

That's what I figured.

That's the setup I want, especially with the deal you can (still I hope) get on hottexhaust.com
