catback questions
i know, ive been around here long enough to know this, but i don't. what exactly is a cat back exhuast system? and, as far as noise and performance goes, what can i do with a cut out? the muffler dude said that if i put on the cut out that i have from QTP, it will sound like an exhaust leak rather than being loud. i have flowmaster 40's and he was saying that it will make less noise that what i have right now??? true, or what? and i know, i know, enough questions...is it possible to run true duels with the spare tire carrier under the truck? thanks guys, please to flame spray me.....please.......don't
so what your saying is that is what we all have? right? or am i miss understanding? is there any gap inbetween the cat and muffler? or is it cat-muffler-pipes? still confused
Yes, you've misunderstood. We don't all have cat-backs. From the factory we have a complete exhaust system in which any piece can later be "CUSTOMIZED". A cat-back is a "KIT" that, on an F-150, replaces everything from the intermediate pipe rearward. They come pre-engineered. The factory manifolds, headpipes, pre-cats, cats, and Y-intersection stay intact with the cat-back installation. There is a slip-joint, from the factory, behind the Y-intersection, where the single intermediate pipe couples. Cat-backs clamp on there and replace the rest of the exhaust.
