Magnaflow Duals
Okay, I've had my Magnaflow #15834 SI/DO system on my 2004 Supercrew for several weeks now. The sound is great, I love the system, but one thing I'm noticing is the chrome tips that come with the system are turning gold and not staying chrome. I polished them once and they turn back to a gold color. It's like pipes on a motorcycle the way they're turning. Does anyone else have the same problem or did I just get a bumb set of tips?
Magnaflow systems are 100% stainless steel including tips which are polished, not chrome. Stainless tends to yellow with oxidation. You'll have to use some polish on them to keep them bright.

I don't have duals, I have the 15609 SI/SO, and I have NEVER polished my tip and it has never discolored. I have had the exhaust for at least a year or so.
All I do is wash them when I wash the truck. and I wash my truck every 2 weeks or so.

if your TIPS are T304 Stainless steel, it will discolor from HEAT. A little bit of Mothers Oxidation wax removal will take it out as along as your maintaining them, it is a bit of work but its better than having rusty tips.
"The ductile quality of stainless steel makes it possible to produce extremely light and strong headers. We use only premium #304 stainless which will never rust and after a few heat cycles will turn a golden amber color which is the characteristic signature of high quality stainless steel. Pound for pound stainless steel outperforms any other header material currently made, including titanium, for light weight, strength, durability and price."
This is taken directly from the TWO BROTHERS racing website. ALL STAINLESS STEEL will turn amber. You can't stop it so you shouldn't try. You can polish it all day, but after a few heat cycles, it will turn again. Call any company that makes ss parts and they will tell you the same thing. It's the nickel in the alloy mix that causes ss to amber.
