Unhappy Magnaflow Routing

Finally started the phased mods to my 97 4x4 ext cab short bed with the Magnaflow 15609 SI/SO. Was not the simple install expected! I took to Magnaflow web site listed shop and he had not done a 97 before. Had to weld hangers and fabricate "stuff". He did good and didn't charge extra from quoted install price, BUT the tailpipe which used to exit in front of rear wheel now comes out behind.

The QUESTION. Pipe passes about 3/4 to 1 inch from spare tire and hangs about same amount below truck body. Will the heat from tailpipe damage either tire or paint on lower body panel?

9300 and AirForce One are next! Like many of you on this site, Can hardly wait. Anita should send worksheets shortly.:

No one responded to this post, so I'll pass along what I found via different source.

Spoke with Tech assistance at Magnaflow. 1/2" is minimum clearance they recommend from spare and the 1" from quarter panel is sufficient. Additionally if you lower the spare and raise it back while pushing it away from the exhaust you can gain additional clearance.

Good luck with your mods.
