SD Emissions Laws
So I just bought a 76 Plymouth Valiant, right? And its cold out side and snowing, now tehres about 3 or 4 inches out, and I get pulled over for loud exhaust. It's straightpiped, of course. But they didn't have cats back then, to my knowledge, and a muffler wasnt neccesary. The cops in town I talked to, some of them at least, say its ok just so its not "loud and unreasonable" which it wasnt. So yeah I was just wondering what the laws are about that. Oh, and I got a ticket for no insur, so I guess they dont have a grace period for that. The cop that pulled me over in my F150 when I first got it let me go, and he was also a highway patrol guy. So i dunno im "very unhappy" right now.
Our life experiences are dictated by our choices. If you choose to buy (and drive) a vehicle without regard to the laws requiring insurance, then why in the world would you be surprised that you got a ticket for it? Not only that, but you waved a big flag (no muffler) to attract the policeman's attention.
I really am looking forward to hearing how you can twist this around to where it's someone else's fault.

my father is a police officer in MN, basically the insurance thing your screwed. they will tell you that you should ahve went to the DMV BEFORE driving the car and got a temp licence and called your insucance company before hand to add it on. the judge MAY let you off with a warning or a lesser fine but who knows. as far as exhaust if it wasnt made with cats there has to be no cats... mufflers are a differant story at least in my state. you dont HAVR to have them on classics but if it is too loud you can get a ticket for public nuesense.
