Single Chamber

While I'm thinking about it, would a single chamber muffler, such as the FM 10 Series, be louder than simply replacing my 40 series with a Y pipe? I want it to be a lot louder than it is right now without losing a ton of backpressure..Thanks in advance

any mufflered setup will be quieter than a setup with no mufflers. Ive heard a couple 5.4's with true dual straight pipes with their stock cats on--they sound great! Really nice mean rumble, you can definetely hear it coming. I cut out the muffler and ran dual tailpipes on my 4.6, but i dont think its as loud as a true dual setup.

Well I was wondering, how much do you think it would cost to get my current setup (SI/DO) changed to a true dual straight setup? What makes me mad is the local muffler shop guy always says "You'll just have to pay money to get a muffler put back on" and always seems very reluctant to do it...is there a way I can do it myself? A friend of mine welds, so that wouldn't be a problem...Thanks

Id say around 200 bucks, to run two new pipes from the motor all the way out the back, no mufflers. If you dont like the sound, or its too loud, go back and buy a cheap pair of mufflers and hvae them welded in.
