Question Do straight pipes alter performance?

I am considering replacing my factory exhaust with straight pipes. Since I do a lot of towing, I wanted to make sure this wouldn't decrease my trucks performance i.e. torque, acceleration, and speed. Please respond

WinchesterMag,

Welcome to f150online!

I can think of much better ways to increase your performance. Such as a Magnaflow CAT-Back Exhuast System , instead of chopping your stock muffler off and running strait pipes.

I would suggest doing a search (at the top right of this page), you will get a lot of information from folks that have already asked this same question.

I think in the end you will find that the Magnaflow offers the best performance, for the price.

Good Luck

as far as i know on a 97 F150 you cant straight pipe it because of the o2 sensors, it will give a bad reading and the truck wont run properly, thats what i was told when i asked a shop to do it for me

1997XLT,

Actually there are methods and devices available that will allow you to do a strait pipe setup. Although, it is illegal.

I have straight pipes and I love 'em! They sound great. If you do it though, do right, get true duals with 2.25" pipe, no mufflers. That sounds great!

If you do alot of towing, you want to maximize your low-end torque. If you want to maximize your low-end torque, you don't run straight pipes.

The magnaflow cat-back system is a little too rich for my blood, but thanks for the input.
