Advise on Removing Smog Eq, & running Headers
Anyone remove their smog equipment and cats and install headers?
My truck is registered in a Non-Smog City and im wondering what i can remove and add that wont mess up the computer when the cats are removed. Or do i need to keep them in for back pressure needs?
Also, what brand of headers fit the best and work the best on the F-150 4.6 . Are they expensive?
Thanks for the help !!!!

You need to keep your cats to be legal but if you chose to break the law you will need to defeat the rear set of O2 sensors to prevent the check engine light from coming on. Search for MIL eliminators. Or you could stick some black electrical tape over the light on your dash. Backpressure is not an issue here.

does anyone sell a "off road y-pipe" of the sorts, that is a direct bolt on to remove the cats? or are you stuck with having a shop bend and weld you up some custom pipes?
I would like to remove the cats as well (live in Nebraska, no smog checks at all here) but would rather do it myself then have to take it somewhere and pay up the *** to have something custom built.

Just pointing out a fact. I have no problem if you choose to be stupid but some people think it is actually legal. Just clarifying for those that may make that mistake. Ignorance and stupidity are two different things. Removing or gutting cats or emmissions equipment is illegal unless replaced by proper stock or aftermarket replacements. Magnaflow hi flow cats can be had for as low as 60 bucks. 120 is a lot less than the potential fines. Just because your local inspector choses not to look underneath does not make it legal. That is my point. It is your truck and you can do what you want. As long as you know it is illegal then the onus is on you. You live with your choices and face the potential consequences.
