Gibson cat back
Gibson cat back

I am about to install a Gibson dual side cat back system. Before I get my hands dirty-----can anyone, who has done this before, give me some tips and techniques. What I should know and how-to's!!!
I have the manufacturer's instructions. Sometimes it helps to hear from you experts on best methods and better ways to achieve great results.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi.
A couple things.
Set aside ample time - you will not want to rush this. I found that getting the old system off took the most time with everything all nice and rusted/seized. Access to a torch is good. Plus the usual safety stuff - glasses, gloves, proper vehicle blocking/support. Of course, a supply of cold ones is essential. Canadians don't know how to work on trucks without refreshments close at hand... ;-)).
If your system didn't come with stainless steel clamps, go buy some before you start. Alternativley, a lot of folks swear by having the joints welded after the installation is complete and aligned properly. Your call.
The rubber hangers will need some lube to help take them off.
If your truck has the vibration damper clamped to the pipe just in front of the stock muffler, be sure to reinstall it in the same location after the new system is in. This thing looks like a miniature oil drum with a short piece of metal and a clamp.
One other thing - when my system arrived the stickers indicating which end of the Gibson muffler was Inlet and Outlet were missing. And, believe it or not NO ONE, not the vendor nor the manufacturer were of any help in telling me which end was which by looking inside! And correct orientation of this pieice is crucial.
So, if it's not too much trouble, please look into each end of your
( hopefully ) marked muffler and post what you see. My guess was ( and I could be 50% right):
- end with the 'dimples' is the Inlet
- end with the 'louvers' isd the Outlet.
Thanks, and good luck.
Please post as requested above, and let us know your results.
Cheers

My muffler is for dual side exhaust --- So the outlet of my muffler has the two ports and the inlet has the one larger port.
I looked inside of the inlet and saw the raised bumps with little openings as if to catch air.
I looked inside the two outlet ports and saw raised bumps smooth.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for your post.

Thanks RDele !
Looks like my muffler's on back-a**wards ! Boy, you'd think they would STAMP the markings on the piece, instead of using crappy stickers that go missing! With your setup, there is no question about which end is which; mine is a SISO.
Good luck - that will be a sweet sounding system.
