Post HELP! - tricks to remove stock muffler?

UPS showed up with my new borla exhaust today. I soaked everything in WD40, unbolted the clamp, cut and removed the tailpipe, got all the little rubber hangers off, the muffler turns a little, but I can't get it to slip off! The clamp seems to have crimped the two together. I wasted about an hour and had to call it a night. Surely someone knows a trick?

s.haun,
What I did was use my dremel to carefully cut two slits in the muffler pipe without cutting into the tube from the cats. Then I used a chisel and hammer to spread the slits and peel the pipe back to remove the muffler section. It was a major Bit@h and if I were to do it again I would pay a shop to do it. Your truck looks great hope you enjoy the Borla when you get it installed my brother in-law has the dual side exit in front of the wheel it looks and sounds great

Go to your local auto parts store and get a muffler chisel. It is designed to cut only the outer pipe without damage to the inner pipe.

I used a hacksaw and made an angle cut about 1/3 of the way around the outside pipe. If you're careful, you won't damage the inner pipe. I then used a BFH to hit the muffler while someone else pushed and rotated the muffler.

BTW, which system did you buy?

Cool

I used the angle cut, it worked like a charm in 5 minutes. Twisted it right by using the exhaust tip/exit as a handle.

Cool

The exhaust pipe runs horizontally, the slip joint is a 90 degree, you cut a 45 degree slash on the exterior overlapping pipe with a hacksaw. __\__
