Post Just installed Gibson Dual Sport...

I finally had a chance to install my Gibson Dual Sport exhaust this week.

So far, I am extremely happy with the setup.

Based on what I was reading on this board, I was considering taking it to a muffler shop to have it installed. Then as I was laying all the parts out on my garage floor and assembling the system to make sure that I had everything, I decided to run out and buy a recipricating saw and try to install it myself. I consider myself somewhat mechanically inclined, but I've never installed a muffler system before. It really was not that bad. I just took my time, and got it done in about 3 hours. After getting the old system off (and going through 3 saw blades), the hardest part was getting the new system alligned the way that I wanted it. And yes, it is a pretty tight fit between the spare tire and the rear shock.

I have not noticed any immediate performance gains, or more importantly no low RPM performance loss, yet. The sound is pretty mellow, with virtually no cab drone. When I get on it, the combined sound of the FIPK and exhaust is beautiful!

I've attempted to record the before and after exhaust system. I was quite surprised that the stock exhaust made as much noise as it did. Check it out:

I hope to have some pictures available soon.

All in all, the perfect choice for me!!

Hey smcconaghie,

Where did you buy this exhaust? Locally, or through the internet? Do you have a link where I could find this exhaust?

Thanks

jleinweber,

i bought it right here from the F150online store.

the online store website has not been updated to show that they sell Gibson, but give Roger or Janet and email or phone call, and they can hook you up.

Here is their website:
http://www.lemereenterprises.com/

It was by far the best deal that I could find.

I installed my Gibson Dual Sport Exhaust on my SuperCrew this week. I was not impressed. Gibson didn't do their homework when they approved this for 2001 trucks, especially SCrews.
First of all, it was said that Ford used a longer muffler for 2001. First instruction was to cut 17" in front of muffler. That was 6"-8" too far, therefore a big gap in fitting. I had to go find another pipe to birdge the gap left. Second of all, the passenger side rear shock come out in front of the axle on just the SCrews. The tailpipes won't clear the shock easily. Now I have a wire wrapped around the pipe holding it off the shock. Third, the system doesn't work too well with the stock hangers. Everything is at a bind or pushed up or over or something. The assembly isn't stable.
This week it is off to the muffler shop to get the system welded up instead of clamped. Hopefully they can put some more braces on it so it isn't so floppy.

btw- I bought it from Stylin Concepts. They had about the best prices I had seen. I ordered several other things and they started knocking money off everything since I was ordering multiple things.
