I have the gibson 9504, split rear system.
And in my opinion, it is WAY too quiet.
You cannot notice any change what so ever.
Plus I have 24 inch chrome slash tips tacked to the pipes out the back, just hoping to amplify what ISN'T THERE.

I can hear a hum in the truck, but not outback. if I were you, I'd look at some other options. My system is 30 days old.

Question Gibson Split Rear

I am thinking of installing Gibson split rear on my 99 SC SB F150 4.6. Does anyone have any input on the sound of the exhaust inside and outside the cab.
All input is appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Tweeter, I enjoy my Gibson very much, both with the inside and outside tone. There is a slight drone in the cab at low RPM's, but nothing anyoying. The sound outside is cool!! When the fire the truck your hear the vrrrrrooooooom and only gets better when you are driving! That is why I bought the exhaust was to hear it and feel it. As far as performance, well due to the length of the pipes you loose some low end, and the noticeable gains all seem to be in the higher range. I had my system installed and welded rather then using those ugly clamps they provide. It looks and sounds great, that install was a well spent 100$. I also suggest the chrome 12' slash tips, they look great. I bought mine in stainless from truckperformance.com for 400$ and shipping was free (still is till March 30th). That site also has all the goodies such as tips to go with the exhaust. I believe Roger here in the online store can also get that same exhaust, you may want to check with him to see if he can compete. Good luck with it!

Tweeter,
I've had a Gibson Split Rear for about two months now. Like Xtrucky I had 20" long 4" diameter slash tips put on to amplify the sound a little.

All I can tell you is, it completely depends on what you want. Compared to a FM 40 series, yes the Gibson is very quiet. This is not to say there is no change over stock at all. It is probably 2, to 2.5 times as loud as stock (bare in mind, stock is almost silent). And the sound it adds is a very nice, clean sounding rumble.

If you're looking for something that is going to turn heads every time you accelerate from a stop, don't get a Gibson. But if you're looking for something that's going to add a nice professional tone, and something that fellow car/truck nuts will take notice of, get a Gibson.

One thing to consider: what type of driving do you do? I do a lot of city (Boston) driving, and the Gibson sounds very nice echoing off of buildings when going down the small streets. A FM40 would have been obnoxiously loud for my purposes. But if you do a lot of suburban or fairly rural driving then a FM40 might be right for you.

ps: As with all catback's, I did notice a slight performance increase with the Gibson. But let's be honest, not many people buy catback's for the performance aspect. $300-$500 is a lot of money for 5-15 extra HP.

Hope this helps

Tweeter,

I put the Gibson stainless split rear on my truck about a year ago. There is a little rumble to it. Darn little. Not loud enough for my taste so a few weeks ago I had a Ravin Z55 muffler put on leaving the pipes from the Gibson system. I love the way it sounds now. If anybody wants their V8 to sound like one, I recommend the Ravin.

I think if you want loud and Gibson, Super Truck is about it. Although, keep in mind Gibson started out making exhaust for RV's. they now make great exhaust for trucks that functionaly improves performance. They don't make "hot rod" exhaust systems.

I've got the Swept Side and it's gotten louder with age (about 2 months since the install) but for an EB Expy, it sounds perfect!!
