Talking New Gibson

I had a Gibson muffler installed today. Someone said that it was too quiet...I guess that I do not have the 6% hearing loss that the average US male has.
It sounds GREAT! The guy who installed stated upon startup "Now THAT sounds like a Triton V8". I have been turning heads ALL day!
It has a low rumble at idle, and growls on acceleration, then when you back off....back to a low rumble. Highway RPM's (at 75) dropped by about 500, and no noticeable loss on the low end.
It is louder than I had anticipated though. If you have ever heard a 454 with dual turbos, then you know the sound of this system.
It was the discussions on this board that helped me to choose the Gibson (well that and the $50 discount from Carparts.com).

I will gladly share specifics!!!!

This website ROCKS!!!

What Gibson setup did you install? I installed the Gibson 2 1/2" dual out the rear. Too quiet!!! It has a nice rumble at about 60 mph. At idle it sounds just like stock. The main reason I went with Gibson was for stainless steel. Glad to hear your happy. Now you have to decide what your next modification will be.

Thumbs up

Maybe the muffler dimensions make the difference. Below is the part number and size of the unit I purchased, most of the Stainless units are 24" inches long (at least on carparts.com).

I had dual 2.5 pipes run out behind each rear wheel. On acceleration, it borders on being loud. But when you back off and maintain speed, it is barely audible. I have also noticed that the awful 1600 rpm drone is gone. The sound is very predictable and easy to control.

Do you really run premium with your super chip? And what is your mileage like?
