Cat Back System
What would you recommend getting to replace the stock exhaust system? My truck, when it arrives, will be SuperCrew with a 5.4L, auto with 3.55 rear. I use it for commuting and for towing a 6000 lb. car trailer. I'd like to improve the HP and the torque as well as the sound.
Greetings!
I just bought the Flowmaster Force II cat-back kit from the online store here at the web site. The kit was $289 plus shipping (CA to FL). It is a dual out the rear kit with a "SUV" series 50 Flowmaster muffler and angle cut chrome tips.
I was going crazy looking for an exhaust kit (Gibson, Borla, Jardine, Bassani, etc.) that would sound awesome and give me a little HP boost with out a huge loss in back pressure. There seems to be some discussion on how much back pressure is actually lost with quality cat-backs ... I've read several articles that claim that most back pressure is contained before the cat converters, and that cat backs don't take that much away. Anyways, once it gets here I'll post a full report. Mike Troyer (SuperChips dude) likes the Jardine kits alot.
Good luck and let us know how the new truck is, I think your the first member with a SuperCrew ......

Steve,
Thanks for the info. Since I'll be pulling a trailer occasionally, I think a side exhaust may be better. I'd prefer a SS setup like the Borla. Don't know much about the Jardine setup. I need to do some more homework. Let us know how the Flowmaster works out.

Hey Supercrew!! I have a jardine catback exhaust system and i love it!! It has a deep throaty sound but not overly loud. Before i lowered my truck, i towed a car trailer with a car with a total weight of 5100 lbs. I towed it from Long Beach, California to Las Vegas, Nevada and went through some pretty steep hills. I was really happy with the 5.4 motor!! and i'm glad i installed an exhaust system. All exhaust systems are basically pretty good, but if you want an exhaust system that will give you the most hp and also sound great then i would suggest that Jardine is the way to go!! Good luck with your choice!! Jardine's web site is www.jardineproducts.com

Believe it or not, I am now towing a 24 foot Camper w/a Max GVWR 5200 and 3800 dry empty weight with a 4.6L and a Gibson Super Truck. Seems to have plenty of get up and go. The right hitch and a Superchip helps I am sure but...I cannot at this point say I have lost more than I have gained even with a "non towing" type exhaust sytem. Go figure huh? I think the losses and the gains are greatly exagerated.

Getting lots of good advice here. I am leaning toward a Gibson Dual Sport SS system. Does anyone have experience with this setup? How much is it in stainless?
I want to get a side exit system, since it should be better (less fumes) for towing. I presently have a SS Borla on my tired old '90 Bronco (Its only a 5.0L w/3.55 axle & has 110K miles and has been towing my 6000lb car trailer for last two years!) I can't complain about the Borla, except I don't care for the tips and they are expensive. (I got the unit for the Bronco for $300 when it was a discontinued item.)

Whytknyt,
Thanks for the Website. I though I knew them all. BTW, I received the following email from Gibson:
"IF THIS IS THE NEW F-150 CREW CAB,THEN I DO NOT HAVE AN APPLICATION FOR IT
YET BUT I WILL. IF THIS IS A SUPER DUTY THEN
I WOULD RECOMMEND THE SINGLE 3" (SWEPT SIDE).THIS SYSTEM IS THE BEST OVERALL
PERFORMER.IF YOU WANT DUALS THEN GO WITH THE DUAL SPORT IT WILL HELP THE
BOTTOM END OUT WHERE THE SUPER TRUCK IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING."
I hope the have it before my truck arrives.

I am towing a 24 foot camper with a little 4.6L with the Super Truck. Of course it all depends and I have a Superchip and the right towing stuff but to put it in perspective here is a response from John Carney at Gibson.
PHIL,
SORRY FOR THE DELAYED RESPONSE THE STICKERS AND CATALOGE INFO IS IN THE MAIL. TOWING WITH THE SUPER TRUCK IS OK IT IS JUST NOT RECOMMENDED DUE TO THE LOW BACK PRESSURE, THIS LOWERS THE BOTTOM END PERFORMANCE WICH IS OFTEN IN DEMAND WITH HEAVY TOWING BUT IF YOU ARE NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS THERE IS
>NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I JUST CAN'T SAY THIS KIT IS RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING IF IT DOES NOT PROVIDE TOWING PERFORMANCE. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK.
THANK YOU
