Cost for exhaust system.
I just had a flowmaster muffler put on i left all other pipes stock it sounds good and was $80 also very few shops have s.s. they use aluminzed pipe that will rust out faster than s.s. Your stock pipes are s.s. that's why i left my stock it not very loud just a nicew rumble, no drone at highway speeds at all. You can looki into an after market kit they are around 400 for the gibson the prices that i have seen for a borla system are in the 550 range but they are s.s. good luck there is a lot of info here you can look in the search catogory also . Welcome to the f150online.

This is what John says about Gibsons systems that are "not recommended for heavy towing". He is talking about them giving towing *performance* not whether or not you can do it. It seems to depend on what you are towing and what you can live with:
"PHIL SORRY FOR THE DELAYED RESPONSE THE STICKERS AND CATALOGE INFO IS IN THE
>MAIL. TOWING WITH THE SUPER TRUCK IS OK IT IS JUST NOT RECOMMENDED DUE TO

I do alot of towing i wont change my system if it would take away from my bottom end rember torque moves the truck then hp takes over, If a company that makes these says that they are not recomended for towing then they have to know what they are talking about,That is my .02 worth. also i was disapointed on how fast it rusted out i live in mi the salt here is brutal.

Well Steve thats the point. Some will actuallly *help* the low end if they say "recomended for towing". But those that say "not recommended...." really just don't "help" towing. Not that they hurt anything they just don't add anything. Depends on what you call towing. 3000 pounds or 7000 pounds. The stock one may not be the *best* one for towing.

I have a 98 F-150 with the Triton V8. I'm thinking of having a Flowmaster muffler with dual rear exhaust pipes installed. Does anyone know roughly what it costs to have a system like this installed? Any help would be appreciated, as I don't want to get ripped off at a custom truck accessory shop. Thanks.
cphilip : I get you point al i was trying to say i have a truck for a reason to use as a truck not a high way cruiser aor stop light racer, i tow alot of things for me and after market exhaust has to provide the things that i need , for a truck to pull things i woudldnt pay money for an system that would not enhance towing , sound alone is great but i wanted more bottom end power thats where you need it for pullling boat trl etc,
Also your enigne spends very little time at high rpms it ius programed to keep rpms low for many reason one being that they have a great torque range, your engine spends very little time at high rpms, so a system that gives you more hp at high rpms is of little use when most of the time your engine is in the 1500- 3000 range. Not my opion there fact that why they make these system to enhance street/ stock vehicle instead of race cars.

I agree with that for sure Steve. In fact I am jsut now assesing this for myself as my needs are changing. Up till now I have been pulling a 13 foot Scotty and a little 12 foot yard trailer. No problems with pulling these and I really love my Super Truck but... I just bought a 24 foot Travel Trailer. I am about to find out if the loss is too much or not. If it is, then I will try putting my stock system back on and see if that helps. If it does then there will be one Super Truck for sale. If not then I can keep it. I'll let you guys know. I might even go to the Single Side Swept for even more pull. Things change and needs change but I sure would hate to give up my ST.

Update! Towed the new camper home last night. With the Super Truck hummin away. No problems. Pulled like a champ. I hit a couple of steep hills and it ended up in 1st gear but it was pulling strong all the way up. I think I can live with it. The Reece load level anti-sway sytem with brake controler really made it all stable. I guess the Superchip is helping also.
Are you kidding about the whole thing John or do you really have a secret for me? If so I really want to know!
