It sounds to me like Gibson is exactly what you want. I have had mine on for about 6 months now, and I love it. The sound is great. It is a nice smooth sound. When I get on the gas hard, it gets louder, but never real loud like a Flowmaster. On the highway I can barely even hear it inside the cab. As for the performance, I can't say it is as great as Gibson advertises, but there is some improvement--especially when towing. I also get about 5% better gas mileage. I would not hesitate to buy another Gibson split-rear for my next truck. I would like to add, though, that the Gibson tips are a must for cosmetic purposes.....they really look great. If you want more than just my word on the sound, you can listen to it at www.Gibsonperformance.com

lovemy4x4,
Is your gibson, stainless ?
does that make a difference in loudness?
also, do you have 2 1/2'' or 3'' pipes.
thanks, Bosch45

Sorry I haven't had time to respond. I have the aluminum exhaust on my truck. I wish I would have gone ahead and spent the extra money for the stainless, just for the quality. We have gobs of salt on the roads now, and the stainless would not rust. As for sound, I don't think there is any difference between the aluminum and the stainless. All the sound comes from the muffler, and the muffler is the same in both systems. One is aluminum on the outside, though, and one is stainless.
I have the 2 1/2" exhaust on mine, also. I did not want to lose too much backpressure which would cause a loss of low-end torque. The 3" might be a little louder, but I doubt it is much louder. I also have the 3 1/2" wide tips by 8" long. They made a small difference in the sound as well, but not much. They add tons to the looks of the system, though. They are definately worth the price.
hope this helps

It Sure Does Help, Thanks For The Insight
On The Stainless system, salt Is A Big Factor.

According to gibson the split rear system will NOT clear a spare 17 inch tire.

I have the 17's on the ground, but for some reason my spare is a 16. It is a 265/75/16, though, which is the same diameter as the 265/70/17. I had no problem whatsoever with the new exhaust and the spare tire. There is plenty of clearance. Plus, my exhaust does not even get THAT hot. After driving for half an hour on the highway I cannot only touch the exhaust, but hold on to it. Mine just doesn't get real hot. I would not worry about the spare tire at all. You can still run the exhaust straight out the back, but if you are worried you can always turn the last two pipes to come out the corners.
I am considering upgrading to 285/75/16's, and I am afraid that could be a problem with the exhaust, but the 265/70/17 and 265/75/16's are not a problem at all.
Steve G, I don't know who you talked to, but I talked to a guy at Gibson, and at 4-Wheel Parts, and they both told me I would have no problem. I checked it out before I bought my system too.

Yeah, I've seen the note on their website. If you have the towing package then you will notice that the spare tire fits inside the Draw-Tite Hitch. The exhaust comes around the hitch. I don't think you will have any problem with the spare tire unless it is a 285/75 or so.
I bought mine from 4-wheel Parts, but if you decide on the Gibson I suggest ordering direct from Gibson. Unless you live in California there will be no sales tax, but you will have to pay for shipping. You won't have to pay 4-wheel parts markup, though.

Steve G is right. You can find a note regarding posible interference with the spare at there web site. It seems that it is a posibilty for some cases.
That's the reason for my question. At this point I am not decided yet what system to buy. We'll see.
