Flowmaster 50 or 70, 2-1/2" or 3"
I've got a 4.6L 1998 F150. I want to change the exhaust to get more power. I'm going to go with a single in, single out. Does anyone have experience with the 3" or 2.5" pipes. Which one is the best so that I don't lose the bottom end power. Also, the 50 and 70 series are both 3 chamber I believe. Has anybody tried one and liked the other better? Just wanted to get some other F150 opinions before I start spending money.
One last question, I think the stock is already a 2.5", if i use it should I just swap the muffler or have a custom mandrel pipe bent? Any help will be appreciated!

I installed a 50 series in my truck with the 3" pipes all the way from the y-pipe. I really like the sound and performance, and i lost just a little low end. One thing though, you have to make sure you get the delta tech 50 series. The regular 50 series creates a drone inside the cabin between 1600 and 1800 rpm which is about 65mph, the drone is bothersome to say the least. I switched from regular 50 series to the delta and the drone is gone. Hope this helps.

I agree, the Delta is the way to go, I have the cat-back system with single inlet/dual outlet. Sounds awesome without being annoying in the cabin.

MD, The 2 1/2 is single is plenty big for the 4.6. I put a 3" cat back on a 318 Dodge pick-up several years ago and it killed the low end power. I have the 70 series muffler only and did the change out myself for less than $100. I could feel a difference immeadiately and it is not much louder than stock during normal driving. You can hear it when under a load like towing or WOT.

I too installed a flowmaster 50 series with 3" pipe all the way from the "y" out and I lost a little bottom end not much.....the 50 series mentioned by another member does create a drone but if your putting this on your doing it for performance and sound so.....that's my 2 cents.....outside that I love it!
I had the 70 series, 2 chamber, dual inlet, dual outlet installed on my 97 4.6 5spd. I didnt really notice any power drops or power gains. I was pleased at first with the sound , until months of having chevys louder than me. But loud is what i want, so im thinking of swapping to 2 40 series...So if you want a nice mellow sound go with the 70 series.
