Post Gibson single rusting out

I knew better when I purchased the aluminized gibson single ex. It is 8 mos old and is starting to rust on the muffler. Also the pipe is very rusty inside. I think the pipe was not aluminized inside. I like the sound and fit of the gibson but I feel the quality is not there. I should have cut out the stock muffler and installed a stainless dynomax ultraflow and a short section of 2.5 inch pipe to fill in the section fwd of the muffler. The gibson did not add any performance and therefore was not worth the 300 dollars.

Chris

EDIT, I live near the Florida east coast (corrosion central)

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes with the Gibson Cujet. At least you have your investment covered by the million mile warranty. I didn't see much performance difference with my Gibson until I towed the boat. Hopefully your next system won't rust out on you. Good luck

Question

I've had a Gibson aluminized single side-swept exhaust on my truck for over 16 months now. Its showing some surface rust around the welds, and thats all. The exterior and interior appear to be in good shape. I also live in an area where they salt the roads during the winter months. I don't know why yours is rusting out while mine isn't, unless yours had some kind of a defect or there are other factors involved.

I live in Jupiter Florida and near the shore, we have a nearly constant salty sea breeze! This is why I said I should have known better! Everything I have corrodes, rusts or otherwise rots here! The good life has is down sides!

On another note my gibson ss headers are rust free

cujet,

I bought wjt's old Gibson system and am going to install it next week. It has some surface rust around the welds as well, and I'm prepping it prior to installing it. I'm using Dupli-Color Rust Fix first. A friend recommended it, it is supposed to chemically turn rust into black primer! The directions call for three lights coats. I've done two so far, and it's already turning the rust to a shiny black glaze. Saturday I'll lightly scuff the system and apply two coats of Dupli-Color High Heat Aluminum paint. This stuff contains a ceramic and is supposed to withstand intermintent temperatures of 1200 degrees as well as most solvents, salts and humidity! According to the label it's ideal for exahust systems, radiators and manifolds. I figure what the heck, both cans cost about $10.00, and if it keep the system looking good and stops any future rust, I'll be a happy camper!
